  • Darth is dark in German. Vader is Dutch for father (Vater is German for father).

George Lucas actually named Darth Vader. The content in the movies is made up.

“Dark Father”; he was given the name for fairly obvious reasons by George Lucas I would think.

  • This has to be a fucking joke. You say it can “actually exist in a totally functional apolitical way” while the two principle influencers of the platform “have bad political opinions.” You didn’t even bother to break up your ignorant defense of their abhorrent inhumane stance, that they are willing to publicly share, from your claim that the platform exists in an apolitical way with a paragraph break. Fuck these two jackasses, I pulled my recurring donation because this shit brought to light their abhorrent views, that again, are just the ones they are willing to admit publicly in a software development capacity. They should have focused on the product and kept their bullshit out of it, hopefully growing the fuck up along the way. I find it hilarious how many dipshits supporting these bigots are the same ones who would parrot garbage about abstaining to vote in US elections because “both sides” bs, the thing is, this platform has no meaningful consequence if it dies. The idea is out there now, it will get picked up by contributors who aren’t bigots or it won’t. No extra lives will be lost, ruined, or families destroyed if I’m unwilling to support these two bigots.

  • They hang out in my yard. When they are in my yard I walk out holding my dog so they see him. They watch while I walk out into the yard and I say “I’m letting him down now”, then as I lower him one of them invariably lets out a really unique short screech and they all run off to the woods followed by my dog running full speed, stopping at the tree line, and then carrying on doing his business as the deer stand off in the trees watching him in the yard, waiting for us to go back inside so they can come hang out in the yard again.

  • I hand wash them. I run my dishwasher after my tap water is fully hot from the water heater (just checked with a thermapen: 129F) and use “Hi Temp” wash (135f (54c) main wash 140f (60c) final rinse) but also use “Sani Rinse” which raises the main wash to 140F and rinse to 156F (69c). I don’t use the dry function, I just open it when it’s done and everything dries really fast.

I don’t put anything in my dishwasher that I wouldn’t put in the oven or microwave.

Edit: other than my tableware and stuff that I wouldn’t put in the microwave just because sparking I meant)

  • If you didn’t notice before checking I uploaded a large square one full of greenies dog treats that I could barely palm. You’re welcome, I was motivated to make sure I wasn’t wrong!

  • These are the fullest ones I have right now. I keep my flour and sugar in snap lids though. Edit: I shook them all before the picture

Edit2: I filled his greenies one, it was hard for me to palm and shake but I did shake it with two hands upside down before the picture:

  • I’m on team tab 100% I guess I was saying if someone felt they had to use spaces then they shouldn’t handicap everyone else because of their choice and an interpreter could normalize their code.

  • My only windows machine is my work laptop with windows 11 docked to three monitors. The other three are mint, endeavor, and qubes hosting several systems. I prefer Linux but the performance of the work laptop has never been an issue even if I don’t like it. I can reboot, connect to the vpn, have word relaunched to a recovered copy, and be back in a teams meeting with outlook open and Jira up in 5 minutes or less. I have to do it once or twice a month because something stupid stops working while I’m in a meeting. These 15 minute reboots, make coffee between, and other similar commentary comes across as wishcasting. There’s plenty of reasons windows sucks. My company has all kinds of stupid agents installed on it that negatively impacts performance also. McAfee was the worst, I’m glad they got rid of that but that wasn’t a windows problem either.

  • I don’t understand why this is such a big deal for anyone. With all the UI utilities available it would be incredibly easy to have a setting to interpret 5 consecutive spaces as a tab or a tab as 5 consecutive spaces and just let whoever prefers what to choose how they are going to interface with the code. Hell, you could even make it so 5 is the default and have custom consecutive values as an advanced option in the interpreter for edge cases. So many incredibly more challenging issues have been resolved in IDEs, I just don’t get it.

  • I take cash out of an atm a few times a year to tip at restaurants and such and just pick $200 because that’s the highest one button click that shows up. $100 seems low to me. I think I got over $100 in my wallet more days of the year than not and I’m not into anything nefarious or even make much money, I just don’t use cash very often but often enough that having it available is handy. Theirs Girl Scouts, fire fighter donations at the grocery, neighborhood sports or band raffles, just random ass things that happen regular enough that having cash throughout the year makes it easier to feel part of the community.

  • These posts are absolutely perfect timing for me. I’m looking to start replacing an old Synology Diskstation I bought back in 2016 that has worked for me flawlessly. I really appreciate everyone sharing their details and experiences here.
