  • Sure, but at the median income in the US, you don't need to be depraved or depressed. At least not for monetary reasons. I'm not saying you need have to cut all subscriptions. A lot of people have much more than one reoccurring charges or spending habits that could either be reduced or cut completely with little to no effect on QoL.

  • Bring able to save a significant portion of your income more than the US poverty line for 30 years without some black swan life event happening to drain it also partly depends on being lucky or/and not having children. The median US household makes plenty to become millionaires for maintainkng a reasonable QoL if there aren't any such black swan events or children involved.

For my mom, it was a custody battle for children that initially wiped her life savings. She since has often worked 100 hours weeks at a job that pays above average for a blue collar job to make enough to back up to retire (plus happens to have worked at the same company long enough to get a pension, something they phased out for anyone less senior than her), but that's not something anyone should be expected to do be able to retire, so I'm not quick to judge people for not having accumulated money.

But a lot of people waste money on convenience in ways that definitely add up cumulatively over the decades. $5/day adds up to $150k after adjusting for inflation over 30 years. A $10/month subscription is $10k over 30 years. Reducing costs like that in a few places can cumulatively get you to at least theoretically being on track to be a millionaire.

  • Surprised how often "furry" came up in this thread. Seems like it would be more fun if more people IRL knew. Granted, perhaps its probably better when those IRL people originally were online furry friends that became IRL friends? Idk. Don't consider myself a furry, but also not exactly not-a-furry. But its no secret I watch a lot of furry twitch streams for my immediate family.

  • Given how many years its been since the first 100TB SSD released, anything short of 200TB seems kinda meh. Honestly kinda figured we'd be past the 400TB mark at this point, but I guess those sizes simply aren't that interesting from a business perspective even if just as a halo product not meant to actually sell much.

  • Convenience/grocery stores still would exist. Buccees is probably better suited to becoming local grocery stores than most gas stations and superstores in terms of size. They just wouldn't be a regional attraction and wouldn't require crossing a sea of concrete to get to the store.

  • Groceries stores are usual huge. If you just want a single item, could still be 10+ minutes from getting to the edge of the parking lot to getting back to the edge of the parking lot with that one item. With a convenience store, its like 3 minutes.

Personally, I still rather go to the grocery store since they're generally a lot cheaper and have more options.

  • I've seen lots of people accused of saying that when they give any criticism of Biden, but I've yet to actually see someone actually say that. At least my personal experience is like 10:0 of people accusing a specific person of saying that to the person actually saying that. That kind of POV I saw a lot more during Obama vs Romney, but not Biden vs Trump.

Just because someone says they're not voting for someone who actively helps fund genocide doesn't mean they're saying the major alterative is equal. Just that neither major candidate passes the extremely low bar to be willing to vote for them.

  • Even if its on by default, first thing you should do when installing or first using it is adjust the settings imo. How often is still a matter of personal choice. And other settings are as well. Granted, I get I'm probably far from the average given how much I like to tinker with settings and customizing toolbars, etc. Still agree it should be on by default along with some basic version history to undo unwanted autosaves.

  • Just use version history to undo autosaves if needed. Which at least some basic level of VH to include the last manual save should be part of writer/calc/word/excel imo. But its easy to use other software to handle version history so you can do restores.
