All the ones I've ever received have come from domains not affiliated with the company they purport to represent. I've taught all my non-security savvy friends to do this, too.

There is no "but still". Here's the thing about language - it is constantly changing. Words change their meanings all the time. I cannot go to the 18th century and use modern vernacular and not be misunderstood, nor could I go to the 22nd century and use it and not be misunderstood.
