  • I tell my friends that my SLA for my media server is Shit's Likely Available just so they understand that I give it out of generosity and don't want anything in return. The bonus is that keeping brutally honest upfront likely means less risk of me ruining someone's Friday movie night.

  • You know, I would have looked it up and checked if there were holes on my knowledge but you being a dick about it makes me not want to.

Next time, don't assume the worst in people and you might actually succeed in convincing them.

  • That's one of the reasons I've worked diligently to remove Google from my life. Only Google branded service left is Maps (and Android if you count that). I really wish there was a map service bases on OSM with an as easily readable map UX as GMaps... OSM derived apps is usually too cluttered for anything where you need an overview in walkable cities.

  • It's kind of a blessing and a curse. The larger a CDN is the more resilient it is to e.g. DDoS attacks which hugely favours Cloudflare. It unfortunately also means if anything happens to Cloudflare most of the internet will go down even though the internet itself should be decentralised by design. What can happen to Cloudflare you might ask. Well anything. Being purchased by someone like Google would be bad for privacy, an incident could force Cloudflare to go down for an undetermined amount of time like what happened to Facebook a while back.

  • There's also a Ship of Theseus thing going on here since your cells are constantly being replaced by new cells. At what point do you stop being you and are simply the train of thought that carried over from your old cells?
