Google AI making up recalls that didn’t happen

I honestly couldn't care less how many adverts they show me, they can have a constant stream of adverts the whole flight if it means that some shitty corporation is paying a portion of my travel coats.
People really need to grow up about stuff like this, if you don't want adverts then pay for a premium service - I'm poor, I'll accept the adverts.
OK but putting that aside can we agree his other point is totally valid, prople in this thread using it to attack all China or all chinese are absurd, awful, and immoral?
They don't know anything about China's government or its history, they're simply combining their hate of capitalism with their hate of China - they've picked up a few wesponized talking points to allow them to talk like they know everything because admitting the whole thing is super complex and confusing makes them feel scared and lost in this big old world.
It's also racism, communism and capitalism are western ideologies so they consider them valid, Chinese principles and reforms are foreign and worthless in their eyes - they simply can't accept that they're not playing the western way, the idea of a third thing is incomprehensible to them. It's the same with Chinese tech, people want to belive all they can do is copy the west, I think partly it just feels weird trying to accept that even in some small way people are ahead of us.
Their electric cars for example are presented as a rudimentary version of American ev but the reality is they're a product very well suited to China's integrated transport network which allows easy and affordable train travel for long distance and commuter transit. Small last-mile and runaround focused EV works in China because that's how they planned for their transit system to work, they're flowing a series of five year plans which lay out the shape and direction of their economy with the goal of benefitting the people. It's a centrally planned economy working through a complex series of committees and congresses. Of course that's communism, anyone that says it isn't is just being weird.
What gets me about the mentality is that they blame capitalism for everything they don't like and somehow imagine that none of those things would exist in a different system - it feels like they've never really thought about the reality of any other system.
Why would people living under true real communism not want a pretty waterfall? Do workers stop wanting a nice day out when their employer is state run?
Unfortunately lemmy is by and large pretty racist, and totally unable to handle any form of nuance. I don't really know why people who consider themselves heroicly leftwing are like this but I think it's because complexity is uncomfortable compared to just deciding you know it all and biewing the world as divided into teams of good vs evil.
Your post was very clear, lemmy has a reading comprehension problem.
You clearly mean that's the reason the local government did it, not that you think they're right.
Yes but the people complaining are largely people who would complain about literally anything - if its pizza for dinner then he's bad for not making pasta, if it's pasta then we wanted soup...
Most people know it's pointless to take them seriously because they're not being serious, they're simply trying to use the strongest words to condemn every single position and action he takes because their underlying self image is based on seeing themselves as better and more moral than the rest of society.
This is hugely common, Christians do it all the time - im too holy and moral to have time to spare to participate in society... it'd a cop out and nothing more.
Exactly what I'm saying, almost no one wants totally open boarders so people attacking Biden for not doing that are ridiculous.
Left purity culture doesn't care about reality, Biden has done reasonable things but it doesn't matter because no one looks to check if they agree they simply assume that it must be bad because government bad. Biden bad, everyone but me bad...
This is why people don't say what they actually want, they don't support anything - open boarders bad, restrictions on boarders bad, closed boarders bad... you can be against everything when your only defining principle is that you'll always consider yourself more radical or better than anyone else.
It's fascinating to me that you genuinely don't know, it shows not only do you have no active interest in working to benefit impoverished communities but you have no real knowledge of the conversations surrounding ai - but here you are throwing out your opion with the certainty of a zealot.
If you had any interest or involvement in any aid or development project relating to the global south you'd be well aware that one of the biggest difficulties for those communities is access to information and education in their first language so a huge benefit of natural language computing would be very obvious to you.
Also If you followed anything but knee-jerk anti-ai memes to try and develop an understand of this emerging tech you'd have without any doubt been exposed to the endless talking points on this subject, https://oxfordinsights.com/insights/data-and-power-ai-and-development-in-the-global-south/ is an interesting piece covering some of the current work happening on the language barrier problems i mentioned ai helping with.
Because those are great ways of exploring and working with things like image analysis and item identification - they seem like the only thing that exists from a consumer point of view but the reality is they're off shoots of developing more significant tools and mathematical understanding.
Think of it like Newton, he invented a desktop toy and a window decoration for hippys- his life in terms of products to market is laughablely insignificant, totally reduculous. However by laying the groundwork of modern science in optics and physics he demonstrated methods that could be used to totally revolutionize pretty much every part of life.
Natural language computing is hugely significant, it removes so many class and economic barriers while also benefitting us in the developed world almost as much. We're going to start seeing ai integrated into sites like Amazon soon alowing you to describe the product you want and actually get search results that match, sounds insignificant but it's a hugely difficult problem and could have a big effect on things. 'Answering a A vase suitable for this flower' or 'a power adaptor to work with this device' is a couple of orders more complex than creating a poem about robot ninja.
Yeah which creates a division where all sane and sensible visions of sexuality are forbidden leaving only more extreme depictions from porn focused sites which race to extremes.
I think it's an unhealthy approach, we need sensible and loving eroticism to serve as a good example otherwise all we have is the absurdity of porn - I'm no prude and not al all against fetish porn or whatever as long as it's consensual and safe but objectification and extremism don't make healthy relationships or happy lives (not say they can't be part of a great relationship but they dont work as the basis for it)
You mean you've already decided before reading it because your opinion isn't based on reality but a hunt for reasons to hate Biden
It's funny how often in these threads people mask off with their antisemitism so clearly
They are, look at modem factory or mine they're full of robotics, now injuries are incredibly low and many of the most dangerous jobs are as safe as a well run office
We're in a big transition as new technologies are developed, it's going to take time but there are are some huge things coming soon - llms and cv are enabling fsctory toolarms to leave the factory so expect cooking arms, repair arms, construction arms, micro factories bringing manufacturing back to local markets... sure it sucks we don't have it now but don't hate the early stages of it just because it's not finished yet.
They're working on that, the easiest bits come first and creativity is easier than ordered thinking and data analysis. People with diminished brain function often use art as therapy and create very creative things, they never analyze and compare datasets for therapy though...
Image gen is a huge part of making useful tools, what we see as the final product- an image generator is actually just a side product of teaching CV to recognize items and apply human labels, this is what will allow you to tell it 'look for red shoes with funky tassels' and it can do it for items not tagged with those descriptions. Plus a million other really useful things, like 'watch granny for signs of distress' without having to explain yes having her hand caught in a loom is distressing.
Also current ai are mostly toys because it's safer to practice and explore toys than tools, it won't be long before you're saying 'you kids don't know about old search, you had to know she what you were looking for and where it should be...'
Yeah, I think also worth remembering that people love games that serious gamers consider beneath them. I love indy games but I also understand why AAA games are fun, simple handholding game play is great sometimes.
Because he wants to stop it from helping impoverished people live better lives and all the other advantages simply because it didn't exist when.he was young and change scares him
Surely item 8623 in the list of reasons no sane person would vote for him will convince them!
The reality is people voting gop don't care about women, they certainly don't care about porn stars - they see this as a political stunt involving a fallen women who of course would lie to hurt their hero. The actual crime of fraud is meaningless to them, they've convinced themselves it's more evidence the dems are corrupt and evil so it'll only harden their resolve.
Vote and convince people the importance of voting, it really is very important. If they win gop will use this as a mandate to ensure 'dem political corruption can never happen again' which involves reversing decisions, packing courts, introducing crazy rules and protections for their own corruption, and likely attacking all the 'many arms of dem corruption' from artifa to NPR.
People who actually care see Biden working to mitigate the problems in Isreal without being totally knee-jerk and making everything much worse - just letting all the jews die is not going to make things better, yes I understand that a small portion of the loud left want this but most the country recognizes its far worse than the current situation and things are super complex. Just pulling funding from Isreal is not an option that any but a very small and extreme portion of the country want, the reality is Biden position is fairly popular and even sided.
And again it is only the very very extreme left who want open boarders, most the left support border controls to some extent. Biden has hugely reduced deportation while Trump wants 'the biggest deportation operation in history' Biden allowed the building of a wall Trump started and hasn't built more, has fought to make boarders less aggressive and to provide help for those at boarders. Biden also ended family separation at the border. Saying they're the same because neither are extreme anti-boarder is just disingenuous.
The reality is soft on boarders or hard on Isreal would lose more votes than it wins.
I think you misunderstood the context, I'm not really saying that he actively wants to stop it helping poor people I'm saying that he doesn't care about or consider the benefits to other people simply because he's entirely focused on his own emotional response which stems from a fear of change.
