There are instances for different interests like game development, art, information security, foss etc so there's a lot of places to dig for good content.
My favorite genre is ARPG including games like GrimDawn, Titan quest, Diablo 2, Borderlands, The elderscrolls series, fallout series etc.
Another one is interactive sims like Deus ex, System shock and Bioshock but those games are awfuly relatively rare.
I do also like to play some fighting games but mostly labbing and local multiplayer.
Lately I've mostly just played old games, "b-tier" games or indie titles just because a lot of the moder triple-A games just feel soulless.
Games like Sacred 2, Outward, The incredible adventures of Van Helsing may have their flaws but they have some bold design choices and interesting mechanics that give these games soul of their own and make them more impactful than many games with 20-30 points higher metacritic score.
I don't really care for online multiplayer games other than ones which I can play some good old co-op with 2-4 players (e.g Monster hunter).
I mostly ignore games with battle passes and loot boxes and a lot of modern games look like some sort of carnival with all the silly cosmetics breaking whatever little immersion they may have. I just recently started playing Doom eternal, the campaing is fine but seeing things like mancubus dressed as a hotdog and bunch of barbarian skins for the player I can somehow imagine what multiplayer is like.

Odotan mielenkiinnolla miten etätyöbuumi tulee pidemmällä tähtäimellä vaikuttamaan asuntokauppaan. Yha harvemmalla on oikeastaan mitään syytä asua pääkaupunkiseudulla tai oikeastaan minkään isomman kaupungin keskustassa. Vähentynyt tarve toimistotiloille on myös herättänyt pohdintaa siitä pitäisikö tyhjät tilat muuttaa asunnoiksi.
Sitten ihmetellään kun yhteiskunta natisee liitoksissaan.
Ei tässä ole mitään ihmeteltävää sillä yhteiskunta natisee jatkuvasti liitoksissaan, mutta monia kiinnostaa vasta kun se vaikuttaa talouteen. Tällöin nostetaan esiin kaiken maailman poliittisesti latautuneet pseudotieteelliset selitykset miksi näin tapahtui ja mitä olisi pitänyt tehdä toisin.
Mutta toki kaikki on asuntosijoittajien vika kun ovat ilmaista rahaa saaneet.
Niin no yhteiskunnan parasiittien syyllistäminen on yleensä melko helppoa, varsinkin kun tekijät itse myöntävät järjestelmän hyväksikäytön. Nyt olisi oiva tilanne vähän remontoida asuntomarkkinoita ja tukkia muutama porsaanreikä, mutta tämä ei taida nykyiseltä hallitukselta onnistua. Noh ehkä sitten kun taloudellinen kestävyys saa seuraavan kierrepallon ympäristölliseltä tai sosiaaliselta kestävyydeltä.

It's mostly Discord or Whatsapp like you said and then maybe Teams for work and Signal with those few more tech savy friends.
Personally I think its ok for instances to delete older posts to save space provided that there are means to archive threads that users find valuable.
For fediverse to thrive it should be as easy as possible for people to setup and manage instances without having to think about the storage space too much.
Archival of historical content is something that I feel should be handled separately.
