  • I have ResillioSync setup witch syncs between different family members. Both me and my uncle make offline backups of the dataset.

My pictures on my phone are backupped by iCloud, OneDrive, Resilliosync and Immich .... The exports are all posted in the Resilliosync dataset and in Immich.

My most important files are on Protondrive and I used to make backups using Perfectbackup to my NAS, but since I ditched WIndows I need something else/

  • Blame the US for that, they are generally the country that goes most against international countries, things like ISO codes for dates, accounting standards, but also things like the way they make invoices etc.

The ISO standards are generally made to make it easier to communicate with each other and here in Europe we also have some really good things going with the VAT rulings and later on with the invoice exchange protocol that is mandatory in Belgium from 2026 onwards.

I also think that beliving that "laws where made by incompetent and malicious people" is a glass half empty way of looking against it and as somebody who has a decent amount of hours learning national and international laws (mostly about taxes) I understand that a lot of them where just made in a different time and people abusing the system cause "quick" fixes to be applied instead of rewriting the enitre relevant law.

  • Why grace to send homeowners? Tax those people, nobody needs to own a second house and pay some form of reduced taxes. Tax it at the same rate money on the bank is taxed (if not already) and if it is rented out, tax that rent income as well.

  • That's not enough, well it might be enough in the US, but here in NL people who are officially Dutch or have been through the process as a refuge to get housing and food etc. Should have at least some kind of shelter.

Then there are still the like 2 (estimation) people in this country who choose to be homeless for whatever reason. I don't try to judge, but there might be some mental issues involved.

And then there are the people who came here from other countries, but haven't gone through the official channels. Some of which came to work, lost their job and cannot find somewhere else to work. Generally this group has housing paid for by their employer, but if you don't have one you don't have a house, at least not here in NL.

There are probably other examples in other countries where basically everybody can have some place to live, but there are still homeless people. I don't believe you just need free housing, you probably need some extra social security and the social opinion on homeless people or people who are at the bottom of society needs to change.

  • Not sure if it is that easy to just built housing for everybody (excluding those 2 people in the entirety of NL who choose to be fully homeless). At least speaking from a NL point of view. If you have no income and you don't have assets you get money and the ability to rent something. It isn't a lot of money, but it should be enough to survive. This is sayiong that if you are actually Dutch and not somebody who came from another country without going through the system to get either asylum or become Dutch.

However, it is really hard to find housing for people in general. Even harder if you earn just enough to not have any rights for social security.

I believe the people who want to do drugs here in NL have the ability to do so in coffee shops (the drug serving once)

  • Not sure if I want to be happy about this or not. I guess it depends on what country he would go to. He will probably go to another country where he can abuse the system to pay fewer taxes than the rest of us.

  • Why are the two world wars grouped together? I understand they might not be the most significant war for people in the US, but they are some of the most influencial wars in history and named World Wars for a good reason ...

I can ask the same about the VIetnam, Cambodia and Laos wars, but they seem to be in the same timeframe at least.

  • What is this for, absolute bullshit? You want to find somebody who fits in the team, that's exactly why you want to get to know them during the hiring process. It's the same BS as that people shouldn't have pictures on their resume in the US. It's not like you can see based on first name and lastname(s) or if they even have second,. third, fourth etc names where the person generally has roots in a lot of cases. If you want to discriminate you can based on name as well.

Edit: Companies shouldn't discriminate, but not adding certain info to your resume or not asking certain questions isn't going to help against discrmination.

  • I have a client who helps their personal out way more than they should. Even paying them extra so they can pay their tax debt. Not that some of his employees deserve it, heck the one he paid the tax debt for is even leaving the company after this all happened.

Corporate bosses suck, small company bosses can be pretty decent depending on the type of company and how much money is being made. These are the companies that generally don't have a HR deparment or a C level employee.

  • Regarding the payment info is why we need to have companies be more transparent all over the world. In NL it is already mandatory for companies to post some form of an annual report (sometimes very basic) and you can buy them for like 8 euro's or something. That way you can check those and see if how the company is doing in broad lines. If you notice that on their last annual report there iare red flags you can ask about that in your interview or just straith up deny working there since there is a risk they will miss payments.

  • Maybe introducing driving lessons on the read and done by professionals all over the world would already change a lot. That and the introduction of better road systems like roundabouts, reducing road traffic by adding public transport and walkable/bikeable area's etc.
