  • When was the duet? Because Kid Rock used to be significantly further left than he is now.

  • Unity's gameplay was a glorious return to form. Unity's writing... not so much.

  • The lack of historical accuracy also isn't due to a lack of research, but a deliberate style and tone choice, as demonstrated at the very beginning of the movie when the trumpeters play We Will Rock You and the crowd claps and stomps along.

  • You can even see Obi-Wan give Han a kind of, "What do you think we are, idiots?" look after he says the line,

  • Generals also took the base construction and resource harvesting systems from Blizzard's games. The entire game feels like it should have been named ModernCraft or something instead of C&C.

Going the other way, Warcraft 1 and 2 used used a left-justified UI that was very similar to the one C&C used, but with elements that would evolve into the StarCraft and Warcraft 3 UI.

  • I still play games with look inversion because controls were so unstandardized in the '90s that what we currently consider inverted was the default on a good number of games and that was what I learned. I didn't even go to the modern stick layout until Halo 3 was out, and that mostly worked because I thought of it as WASD + mouse mapped to sticks.

  • The amazing thing is it's not even the first time they've leveraged a movement for votes and then lost control of it. A century ago, the Republican Party was just the corporatocracy party. This doesn't get you votes and they were getting annihilated by the Democrats, so they used the Southern Strategy to get the racist vote. They didn't actually care one way or the other, but it got them votes. Then the racists started getting elected as Republicans and the corpocrats lost control of the party for a while. Then they did it with evangelicals and had the same problem. Now they've done it with fascists.

  • At this point I'd say we're deep into the 'enemy of my enemy' area. Focus on the one actively ruining things, then deal with the rest later. The trap we'd need to avoid is continuing to treat people like Bannon as allies once Trump and Musk have been dealt with, an issue that happens a lot with this kind of situation.

  • My current distro also uses pipewire and I've had no issues. I haven't even needed to configure anything. I originally went to Linux when my XP install died and I couldn't afford a Win7 license. I was happy enough with Win10 to migrate to that when it came out, and now that Microsoft is forcing people onto Win11 I'm back to Linux as my primary. Pipewire and Proton really took Linux from 'good enough' to 'actually quite nice'.

  • I have no idea why Pulse is so bad. During my last foray into Linux, I created a shortcut for killing and restarting Pulse and pinned it to the dock. I also replaced all my game shortcuts with scripts that reinitialized pulse, then ran the game, then reinitialized pulse again when the game was closed.

  • That's part of what makes Emily more fun to play, all of her powers have non-lethal uses. Getting the achievement for never being spotted is still tedious, but Emily can do stuff like overt low-chaos runs where you attack head-on and still never kill anyone, which isn't really an option for Corvo in either game.

  • Emily is also much more interesting to play with her greater emphasis on utility powers.

  • I still haven't played Part 2, but I'm pretty sure the remake trilogy is a stealth sequel.

  • FF8 didn't do it for me, mostly because the gameplay was a terribly broken mess. I loved 12, though; the story is like the love child of Final Fantasy, Game of Thrones, and Star Wars, and the gameplay felt like a logical evolution of the ATB system for a fully 3D world.

  • Possibly to differentiate from the trans women, who were mentioned immediately prior?

  • They're pretty bitter when you're young, but your taste buds usually become less sensitive to it as you age.

  • Even 2077 didn't have ads in your car.

  • The Praetorian Guard killed some emperors, but that isn't an official duty of the Secret Service. Of course, it wasn't an official duty of the Praetorian Guard either.

  • So he can be the guy who saved America. If he keeps his head down and looks like the sane one while Trump and Musk go full Nazi and he removes them from power, he'll have an insanely high approval rating, even if he doesn't roll back anything they did. He'd probably win the 2028 election in a landslide, and since he'd have served just under half of Trump's term he'd be eligible for re-election in 2032.
