  • You said it yourself: for a living.

Growing food with a main goal of profits in a private enterprise rather than just sustenance or profit through government grants without private market interference has a lot of downsides, including to farmers themselves.

For example, optimisation for profit means a lot of waste:

    • Perfectly healthful produce with aesthetic faults has to be left to rot on the ground as it won't sell and nobody's going to collect it for those that need it but can't afford to pay the "market price"
    • If you have an exclusive deal with a grocery store or other intermediary, the excess of an unexpectedly good crop yield will likewise in most cases have to be destroyed because the buyer can't receive all of it and you're not allowed to sell to their competitors.
    • Likewise, any excess of a particular good harvest across a crop will also be destroyed to avoid losing money on the market value of the crop dropping due to increased supply.

All of this while a few megacorps sit between farmers and consumers paying the same or less to farmers and charging much more of consumers while the cost of living and business expenses of farmers keep rising, making it harder and harder to make ends meet if you're not the aforementioned megacorps.

And that's not even mentioning all the issues of long hours and some of the worst working conditions of any industry, all to save a buck or two to stave off bankruptcy and eventually starvation for a little longer while the megacorps and their billionaire owners and executives gobble up almost all the value of what you produce.

  • things to remember for your mental health and happiness,” capitalism or not.

Except for the fact that a society built on capitalism with calvinist work ethic bullshit thrown in like most of the West works directly against your mental health by forcing or at the very least strongly encouraging the opposite of all of these things, with the possible exception of the first one.

Capitalism is all about striving and producing and toiling and striving to toil productively and then making you feel guilty if you don't live up to all of that. Capitalism has zero chill.

That WILL hurt if not utterly destroy your mental health if you don't remember to give yourself permission to ignore capitalism's bullshit once in a while.

  • Ok, I'm just gonna be specific. Mods can delete it if it's against the rules, but as you rightly imply, being circumspect about it isn't working.

Searching for a Cheat Engine table for the game (FIFA Manager 14 with the 2023 update mod. Holds up surprisingly well!) was actually how I was reminded of the old trainer Megatrainer XL, which is what I originally used for free a decade and more ago when the FIFA Manager games were new.

They call it Plitch now, though, and apart from the "extremely stingy freemium" part, it doesn't even work with the FIFA Manager 23 executable and Megatrainer XL, having been a rougher but otherwise much more forgiving piece of software, probably would. The part that makes it piracy is that they still retain the rights to the superior product they've since abandoned..

The same comment on the fearless forums also suggested its sister Megatrainer EX in their comment last month. They didn't post a download link, though and I don't know if that's even allowed on the fearless forums 😕

  • GDP is up 5% and unemployment is like 3-4%.

GDP measures the market value of all goods and services to the rich people who it all. It doesn't take inflation and cost of living expenses such as the skyrocketing rents into account. It's a measure of how well the top 10-15% are doing, not regular workers.

Likewise, the official unemployment statistics count critically underemployed and underpaid people and people who work without getting paid as equally employed as someone collecting great pay and benefits for doing their dream job. Most of the jobs added from some time during the late aughts to now have been low-paying part time jobs with no health insurance that are literally the next worst thing to unemployment.

What I'm getting isn't that any of this is necessarily Biden's fault. My point is that both are poor measures of how well things are going for regular people and in fact things are just as bad as they were before and right after the height of the pandemic. In some ways even worse.

  • Must have taken them all of a second to come up with THAT brilliantly scathing sobriquet 🙄

Don't get me wrong, I despise him and the rest of the cult as much as the next sane guy, but couldn't they have been just a LITTLE more creative?

I have a better suggestion. It's alliterative so it rolls right off the tongue, it has a reference to walls tumbling like theirs did, AND it references the fact that he's a fundie weirdo. There's even a bonus reference to the fact that he's a dick and his surname is slang for dick!

  • Fun fact: falsely altering data from the national meteorological agency like that is ALSO a felony that carries a maximum penalty of actual prison time. Would have been a hilarious way to finally cage that bastard IMO!
