Does Newpipe have any recommendations? I haven't noticed any setting for this (and I haven't missed it, just curious).

Since I've been using Newpipe I've watched more videos of what I was specifically searching for and little to no mindless viewing. It's allowing me to research certain topics more easily without the ads and distractions.

I don't think its a Federal requirement to offer employees any vacation or sick leave in the US. For many office jobs you have to earn leave time over the course of months or years - it's not unheard of to have zero leave time the first six months of employment.

I'm not sure if the plaintiffs are white women but ...scholars say the greatest beneficiaries of affirmative action policies are white women, from college campuses to the American workplace.

The lawsuit cites three female business owners, one from New York and two from Virginia, who argued that they could have benefited from the Fearless Fund grants but were ineligible because they are not Black.

But if the money went to three non-Black women, wouldn't the fund be practicing explicit gender discrimination? The money should skip right over them and go to white men, taking their argument even further.

I'm wondering if physical (and maybe chemical) exfoliation sloughs off "diseased and dysfunctional " skin, and if moisturizer/lotion also keeps these skin cells healthy. Of course, sunscreen and avoiding too much sun exposure probably helps the best of all. ETA: I just read the article and it suggests that moisturizing could help stave off inflammation that leads to dementia. But I still wonder if exfoliating would be read the same way in the body as itching the skin (which leads to inflammation).

For me, aside from picking initially between kbin and Lemmy and then picking an instance (and the whole concept of instances), it was not having an algorithmically created feed. It took a bit to wrap my mind around since all of the social media apps and sites I was used to (and still use) provides this.

I was confronted with building my own feed by topic of interest (aka community or magazine) or else.face a firehose of all content from all local or federated instances. I mean, I did it, so it wasn't that big a barrier, but it still required effort and conscious decision making on my part just to set up the thing to be usable. It's probably one of the reasons why I don't use Mastodon that much, because it's easier to join/subscribe to topics in kbin and Lemmy (at least in my experience). Mastodon seems to be for following individuals and organizations, and that's even more work (for me).

This was predicted. No doctor is taking a chance to be arrested or sued, let alone losing their license to practice medicine in the state.

It doesn't just affect OBs or gynecologists. A general practitioner or an emergency room doctor could prescribe a medication and if that patient happens to be pregnant (and did not know it at the time she received the medication) and has a miscarriage due to the medication, that doctor could go to jail and be sued by every family member of the patient. It's common sense that they would move to states where abortion is legal and where they can provide the standard of care they were trained to provide, without fear of being arrested or enormous legal fees.

One difference is that you used to be able to get a cable plus Internet plus phone package for a temporary deal of $99/month for two years. You could threaten to.cancel.and the cable company would offer to extend it or offer a similar deal (say, the same package for $125/month). If you were willing to inconvenience yourself, you could go ahead and cancel.and get another member of the household to get the package as a new customer, bringing it back.down to $99/month (or, if you were a tenant, you could get the new deal.when you moved again).

Now Internet is separated from the entertainment piece, so it's $110+/month for Internet plus whatever you pay for all of the streaming services plus cell phone (since hardly anyone is paying for a landlines anymore). (Plus VPN or other Internet adjacent spending if so inclined. ) That adds up.to more than the old school cable, Internet and.phone package. I think separating everything out is where people are feeling the pinch.

I'm in the US. I subscribe around Black Friday (day after our Thanksgiving) for the year. Usually some streaming service has a deal. I currently have Disney+ and Hulu with ads bundled together for $5/mo and Peacock for 99 cents/month for the year, and Starz for $3 for two months (have to remember to cancel soon). Those deals are the only reason why we are subscribed to those.

IIf they offer deals two or.more years in a row, my husband and I take turns subscribing.

With all those options there is still very little to watch.

Yes, I agree. Investors want explosive exponential growth but there is great value in stable, slightly profitable companies that produce social goods. For example,.Twitter was unique in getting emergency information out; in real.time reporting; in sending out traffic and commuting alerts; in directly and quickly communicating issues with private companies.
