  • I can make impossible burgers on my pellet smoker - smash or pub style - and they are indistinguishable from lean beef. High heat sear and a bit of wood smoke is the trick. And MSG.

I have never been anywhere close to that successful with Beyond, and not for lack of trying. ☹️

  • I think they’re playing the same game OpenAI is. Nonprofits can “own” for-profits.

No, it’s not rational or ethical or reasonable, but it’s a thing, because Capitalism gotta Capitalism.

  • By this judges logic, the government also has no authority to restrict abortion, as medical treatment should be solely determined by medical professionals and their patients.

Shame the ruling doesn’t extend to other forms of basic medical care.

  • I don’t know how people stomach the Beyond stuff. I’d rather go with the old school soy alternatives than Beyond; their textures are just so weird and off-putting, and they always taste wrong.

Impossible is unbelievably good in a lot of applications, though. If they could get their prices down, I’d eat their products a lot more often. Need to try their dogs, though.

  • the court ruled, adding that “students who identify differently ... have a right to attend school without being confronted by messages attacking their identities.”

This is refreshing - a court ruling that actually understands the Golden Rule of Liberty. Who woulda thunk?

  • Hard pass. The art style, the music, the whole vibe…

I don’t understand how you create a masterpiece like DA:O and then repeatedly go “let’s make a followup that is nothing like that whatsoever…”

  • Fair question. The answer is timing.

I was a huge fan of Aptera the first time around, in the mid 2000s. I was crushed to see them fold simply because the government yanked funding for any vehicles that didn’t have 4 wheels (funding that Tesla did get, which is why they survived).

The Cybertruck was announced in 2019, while I heard about Aptera’s resurrection only in late 2021. Until recently, Aptera’s second attempt was looking really tenuous, too. The only just secured full funding to enter full scale production.

Basically, I like practicality. When it was announced, Cybertruck sounded like it would be very practical… rough, tough, indestructible, and electric. We know better now.

Aptera is a very different kind of practical, sure… but for a car I’d use for light commuting a couple times per week (in SoCal), there’s a chance I may never even need to plug it in. That beats out any and all other considerations, in my book.

  • Yep. I was unironically going to buy a Cybertruck… then Elon came out of the fascist closet while Tesla’s QC/CS problems escalated… now there is no way I will ever touch anything Tesla or related to Musk.

Waiting for Aptera now, but would also consider Rivian in a pinch.

  • I was going to say most of this, too. I’m a big adherent of BDD, which works well with agile. It clarifies what everyone is working on without getting weighed down in unnecessary minutiae or “documentation for paperworks sake”… it lives and evolves with the project, and at the end becomes both testing criteria and the measurement of success.

  • Microsoft wants to lock up business dollars while the AI feeding frenzy is still fresh.

They do not care about any other markets or segments, which is why their products are getting so bad so fast for literally everyone else.
