I'd allow or even encourage something like this but ideally only on the wall and not covering the door plus not with crayons or marker since those can be a pain to paint over. But other than that I agree, why not? It's a way for them to incorporate their own design ideas into their living space.
You have to understand that life isn't about looking for "the best" oppurtunities but to work with what's in front of you. You are as a human being equipped with the tools you need to shape and transform your environment. That's not to say that change isn't necessary sometimes but often better is the enemy of good. Life is less strenuous when you go with the flow.
The other thing is you need to fight desparation. Hope is like a plant that you need to tend to continuously. But you need hope and trust in your own abilities in order to function in times like these.

I agree with almost everything you said except 4. is only true for past mistakes. I don't think you should excuse ongoing, genuinely harmful behaviours just because that person will be gone one day. Not that I necessarily think that's what you meant but I wanted to emphasise it.
