  • Not shortages yet, but steep price increases.

I have dropped some items from my normal grocery list because of ramping prices. Eggs and avocados were first, but it's expanding to other things now.

I have some hobby projects I want to do that would require buying new hardware; those prices are going up so that is on hold until further notice.

I work from home 95% of the time and do much of my evening/weekend socializing and hobbies within walking distance of my home, so I could drop my driving and fuel consumption very low.

I bought a $30 renter-friendly bidet kit so I am way less exposed to another toilet paper shortage.

I was going to buy a new car, probably a RAV4 internal hybrid, within the next 1-2 years but that is completely up in the air now. My current car is functional, just old, and I would continue driving it rather than swap to an inferior and dangerous American car like Tesla.

Buy less, budget conscientiously, wait to see what happens. Exactly what Trump doesn't want but which anyone with half a brain cell knew would happen.

  • Meta displayed a chart showing that the “percent of time spent viewing content posted by ‘friends’ ” has declined in the past two years, from twenty-two per cent to seventeen per cent on Facebook, and from eleven per cent to seven per cent on Instagram.

Yeah. By their design. If they would allow user control over what shows up in their feed, mine would prioritize friends' content. I'm not the one choosing to turn my feed jnto AI slop based on my alleged interest in the topic.

  • acknowledges the term was made to troll LGBT people

Why can't we have a good faith conversation on this?

    K, sure.

  • Knot tying. Most half-hitches tied in 60 seconds or fastest time to tie all six of the "scout knots".

I assume 99% don't know them and I am reasonably quick at them, I could hold the record for at least a day or two.

  • Zero.

If someone I know asks me for money, I'm at least asking them "what's up? Everything ok?" before giving them money.

Then after that, still probably zero because I don't have any cash in my wallet atm. So hopefully I can help in some other way, give them a lift somewhere, cover a meal, something.

  • Websearch for "the bripe".

  • I like the Aeropress. Simple and versatile.

  • Dude, one of the stated objectives of Artemis 3 is to be the first to land a woman and a person of color on the moon. That isn't happening with Trump in office. Mark me, he'll cancel it someday to make big headlines and to draw attention away from something even more insidious. Feckless career politicians and media personalities will give him a complete pass because the mission is behind schedule and over budget, without pressing on why that is or how Trump/DOGE have made it exponentially worse.

  • Pretty sure it was millipedes. Lots of little legs that go down below the body, versus fewer legs that stick out to the side. And they smelled when squished.

  • I acclimate to to the heat. I've lived in the South with no AC at all; 80F with humidity control is cushy by comparison.

Summer: open windows until heat and/or humidity causes concern for my electronics.

  • Why, thank you. Your comment is worth more than all the upvotes.

  • Childhood spring one year, conditions were perfect for millipedes. The basement floor was covered in them. I mean covered with the floor barely visible.

They weren't damaging or dangerous, just disgusting. My dad put on his outdoor shoes and just walked around in tiny steps smashing them. He walked for hours. Then scraped them up with a plastic snow shovel and threw them outdoors for the birds to go wild. Then walked some more.

No other spring since has resulted in those sorts of numbers. It was interesting to see my dad's reaction: the disgust and fascination and satisfaction. God help him if he ever discovers pimple popper videos and the like, we would lose him to the algorithm.

  • I still have an account but haven't actively used it since 2016/2017. I log in once or twice a year to see what distant contacts have reached out so I can redirect them to channels I actively monitor.

  • I have a projector hooked to a Roku box. I don't use it much but I occasionally watch Planet Earth or similar with a shutoff timer so I can fall asleep to Attenborough's narration.

  • Report them for tax fraud? Almost definitely not. I would be getting a lawyer and accountant to insulate myself and my financials from them.

  • Broke off an engagement when he started showing hints of being way more trad / misogynist than he wanted me to see. It took him a few more years to come out of his closet with full Trump/ MAGA/ patriarchal/ white nationalist delusions. He did marry someone else and she recently pressed DV charges and divorced him. I don't talk to either of them directly, but the stories I hear through friends and family sound like full blown reddit writing exercises.

  • Mine were both mid to late thirties when they had me. More than just their age, birth order was an impact. I am third born out of a lot. Standard middle child, if blood wasn't gushing out of my head, I was forgotten. There are pros and cons to being the overlooked middle.

  • Overcoming writers block or whatever you want to call it

Like writing an obit or thank you message that doesn't sound stupid. I just need a sentence down to work from, even though it doesn't make it to final draft.

Or I needed to come up with activities to teach 4th graders about aerodynamics for a STEM outreach thing. None of the output from LLM was usable as it was spit out but was enough for me to kickstart real ideas

  • Ah, thanks to those clarifying who this schmuck is.

At first I wondered if it was the meme author? Lol at getting your headshot out there. Random Asian scientist? Eeeeeh, tip toeing into racist undertones with the repeat posts.

IRL jackass running unethical and illegal human experimentation? Bring on all the memes and then some.
