  • Murdering all murderers can't conceivably be "self-defense", making it unlawful.

  • Murdering murderers makes one a murderer. If one is going to ignore any context and mitigating factors, no, murdering murderers does not result in net good.

E.g., people who have killed in self defense have been tagged as murderers. Murdering them is not at all a good thing (in my moral framework, at least).

E.g. #2, murdering one person for Reasons does not necessarily mean a murderer is going to murder again. So murdering them adds to the overall murder tally without necessarily preventing any additional murders.

There has to be some element of preventing future murders, not just retribution of past murders, for this to even be a debate, IMO. And then there's the bar of simply locking them up being insufficient to prevent them murdering in the future.

  • Yep. Remind him that Kamala Harris has half Indian ancestry and he'll be ready to colonize it right after Panama, Greenland, and Canada.

  • Is there some metric that shows amount of time a seeder has had files available but not necessarily actively seeding?

Archivists like you should get accolades for keeping the more rarely sought after media. More so than we need yet another seed of Avengers.

Thank you for seeding them. Unless it's weird porn.

    ... it's weird porn, isn't it ...

  • My uncle, from the time he was a little boy, liked nothing more than farming and gardening. He has one friend and they talk exclusively about growing stuff. He had to be forced to finish high school because all he wanted to do was wrench on a tractor. He barely talks unless it's farming related.

He apparently takes after other men in the family, always one or two per generation, who were pretty much mute except when it came to their special interest. And they were 100% focused on their special interest.

Back in the day, it was "Uncle Bob just has those family genes. We get one of them every once in a while. He sure is a helluva good farmer." Today he would be diagnosed with autism.

  • Yep. And adopted a white baby. Like, intentionally, specifically a white baby.

  • The slideshow of the lives of the couple included photos from a Black Lives Matter protest. One of the two getting married is a cop. Then I noticed Thin Blue Line decor around the gift table. The other half of the couple is Black.

  • I call AI slop. That quoted paragraph is terrible.

"A fifth of children are in broken homes or parentless". Lol, as if kids raised by a single parent need to be adopted by a married couple. Bullshit.

  • I follow the directions on the container. Mine doesn't say to let it set, so it stays in as long as it takes me to give it and my scalp a good scrub.

Edit: I also use something called co-wash, not conditioner.

  • Feels bad, man. I just hope other countries pay attention. Y'all are seeing swings to the right too. Germany, Canada, Sweden, France, more, check yourselves before you find yourselves in the same spot.

  • Lol, no. They were able to have a house and multiple kids on one salary.

  • would a "standard" commoner from back then laugh at how 'soft' our world has become from their point of view?

No, they'd either want the same or they'd think we're evil magicians and want to burn us at the stake. Who tf wants more infant mortality (except for US Republicans and their ilk).

"Ah yes, dying in childbirth really builds character!"

"Contracting polio really put hair on my son's chest and made him into the man he is today!"

"I'm so glad I can look forward to a life of hard physical labor and and death at 40. Not like those future weaklings who might survive into their 70s and beyond."

"Oh, boy. Chattel slavery has been great for us. The family that picks cotton together, sticks together ... until our owners decide to sell us off."

  • While I have some savings, I'm not wealthy and I'd rather be employed. The best time for me to look for a better job would be while employed and on ok financial footing.

I'm also in a position where I could insulate myself from a lot of toxic personalities and "quiet quit" to some degree before getting fired. And getting fired would mean unemployment benefits where I live, so I'd be ok with that.

  • Hindsight is 20:20. Regardless, I think Bob is overreacting, assuming your email to Alice was in the range of what I personally would write and nothing you said was sparking red flags to me l.

  • Oh, for sure. I guess I assumed Bob made the introduction by email. So OP could reply to that intro email with a "Thanks, Bob! Alice, pleasure to meet you, I'll send you a separate email to introduce myself and blah de blah".

Acknowledge the email and thank Bob, then drop him from the convo. Regardless, Bob doesn't need to see the sausage being made.

  • Without reading your actual email, this all sounds normal to me. Networking is how people get jobs.

I would have probably thanked Bob and dropped him from the email before asking Alice questions. Bob doesn't need to be on that email once he's made the introduction.

  • Adding to Scratch recommendations, look for First Lego League Jr teams in your area for next year. FLL Jr is for ages 6-10. They get simple kits with visual programming, and it preps them for FLL (non-jr) through to FIRST at the high school level.

  • Accidental? A wayward tap.

  • You know women does not equal extrovert, I hope?

"Women be bitchy unless I am bitchy first" is just too neatly packaged for internet woman-hating bait. Is this AI or someone trying to karma-farm reddit style?
