  • Maybe Captain America's real power is that he is really heavy.

  • I feel LLM created texts often use rigid structuring along with the fitting linking words and phrases – "on one hand..., on the other hand", "furthermore", "in conclusion". Like a high school student writing an essay. Also the content may or may not be correct and is mostly just stolen from several sources and patched together without any thought and care – also like a high school essay. So I'm gonna go with that.

  • Stepping on single fallen leaves on the sidewalk. I'm also more disappointed than I should be when they are not crunchy.

  • Yes, tourists sometimes think it would be funny. But this did not happen at the Oktoberfest in Munich. It was an Oktoberfest in a village in Saxony with about 2500 inhabitants (actually a collection of several villages). I would bet the chances of tourists being present are very close to zero.

  • And I think you are underestimating how much of a deeply ingrained taboo the nazi salute is for the typical German. You are right, some people can be very stupid, especially drunk. But no German who has not been in some way socilized among nazis would be stupid enough to ever casually do a nazi salute. You just don't do it.
The only exception I might allow besides actual nazis are very stupid or drunk (or both) teenagers trying too hard to be edgy. And even then most people would find it hard to believe that they're not at least right leaning.

  • I read Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain at some point during the First World War centenary. I'm also roughly 100 years younger than Vera Brittain, so I was very close to her age during WW1. I knew the facts of WW1 before, but it hit me really hard to think about a whole generation of young people (of the countries involved) having their youth drowned in a war. And the pointlessness of it all. It made me really grateful for the circumstances I was lucky enough to grow up in.

  • PS is Pferdestärke, which is just horsepower in German. I think CH is the same in French, and CV... Italian? So maybe the other ones also all mean HP. I don't know why they put all of them there, but maybe it's because since it's not a SI unit, there is no official abbreviation everyone knows.

Edit: Just looked it up and I was wrong, they are actually different units, even though horse related. Even HP (747.7 W) and PS (735.5 W) are slightly different. What a mess, that's why we need SI units.

  • Imagine running out of ideas before having named one after every kid. Now that would be awkward.

  • I've had my 1l Sigg aluminium bottle for about 10 years. The lid broke once when I dropped it and I bought a replacement lid. It's a bit dented but otherwise still good.

  • Thank you!

  • Thanks! So at least there is some hope.

  • I don't know. Can the lead levels in plants and meat even be high enough to be dangerous for humans?
I assumed removing the lead pipes would be enough for lead while you had to remove the microplastics from every plant and animal you want to eat. But I realise I may be completely wrong.

  • Not trying to be combative, but genuinely curious: What ways are there to remove microplastics from organisms?

  • That's true. I meant we stopped actively using them when building new houses. Though now that I think about it, even that is maybe not true everywhere. But at least it's something you could change once you identify the problem. Microplastics have permeated everything, they can be found in the depths of the Mariana Trench. There is no getting rid of them (as far as we know).

  • Many, many future generation's leaded gasoline aswell. You're welcome, future generations! We thought, we'd add a little something to the mix to take your mind of the climate disaster.

  • Remember those stupid people in the past, drinking lead-poisoned water? At least we could just stop using lead in pipes when we found out it's bad for us. Good luck finding anything to ingest without microplastics.

  • I assume it's for the same reason you say Nasendusche, Nasenrücken or Nasenbluten but Halsschmerzen or Halstuch (though I'm not sure what's the exact grammatical reason). It has nothing to do with the number of noses. I think it would be Augenarzt and not Augearzt even if we had only one eye.
