Trains can go faster, but have a stricter schedule. Cars are extremely convenient. You can leave when you want. Want to be in a city at 8 am? It’s a hour away by car so leave by 7. However the only train getting there before 8 leaves at 6. But it takes 20 minutes to get to the station. Or, if we go super green, it take 45 since your walking. You need to leave at 5
It’s similar with a bus, but more manageable when most stops have buses stopping every 15-30 minutes. So for a bus you may need to leave at 6:30 or whatever to make it on time.
Federal holiday for voting accomplishes nothing as company’s will gladly pay you a extra holiday to keep your vote silent.
Required day off to vote doesn’t work on its own. All medical staff can’t take off. Many industries can’t afford to cut staff to allow them to vote. We need multiple days to vote on and everyone needs to be given one of those days off paid. 3 voting days and everyone is required to have 1 paid day off during those days should be enough for every business to get their shit together and find coverage. We can operate as normal for those 3 days.
And finally, more voting locations. Any government building should be a viable voting location. Let me vote at my municipal building. It’s weird I need to go to a church to vote for a government official
They’re significantly less damaging to the environment but the lithium mining is awful and the resources to generate electric currently are pretty damning. But all things considered, even with those they are significantly more eco friendly so if we could focus on green electric generation EV’s would be extremely more friendly.
But a real solution to green transportation involves cutting out vehicles for personal use. Using public transportation like buses and stuff (which can be electric too) would cut down on transportation emissions significantly. Intercity travel is tough because of the distance. Trains are an option, but honestly they aren’t fast enough for most people when you’re traveling hundreds of miles. I think electric cars are still the better option there. Them moving trucks to electric is a big help too. Tractor trailers aren’t as inefficient as many people think. They use exhaust fluid to curb tons of emissions. But they do an extreme amount of driving so it still has a significant impact.
More solar, wind, or hydro electric would make us a very green planet that costs a lot of money and not much interest from people with the money to do it. It’s a solved problem, but no one wants to implement the solution
We need a fair competency test for all voters, young and old. However there is no way to make and maintain a fair test that has no chance for corruption. So every citizen gets a right to vote with no exceptions. Anything restricting voter rights needs abolished
Almost looks like water damage but that is either a lot of water pressure or a long amount of exposure…
Probably not. I know nothing about the origin of the picture. I just wanted to provide some alternative. Idk why someone would put an app in the back of a picture completely irrelevant to it. It’s pretty crappy and really not good marketing.
Are we sure they’re working to figure it out? Pretty sure they’re not. Pretty sure they know where it went. And why it’s there
I can see the joke, but that wasn’t the timing for it. This was a statement movie through and through, and while it does paint what has been done in the past to women this happened at the end of the film. For a statement film then end is a call to action, not a silly one liner. That joke was better reserved to happen closer to the middle or beginning. The ending should be reserved for an analogy for how things should be.
My biggest issue with it was honestly the ending. They make it clear that Barbie world is just reversed where the men are treated poorly by the women. Which is fine. The analogy makes as much sense as it needs to for the point it makes.
But at the end they have the change to use that point to illustrate where they would like to see the world go. They could have said “wow we were assholes and our poor treatment of men encouraged this entire shit show. We’re going to treat men as equals now” but instead they simply gave them slightly better benefits than they had before and still expected to be able to treat them like crap. It would’ve been nicer to see them illustrate more equality between the genders and the results it had on the regular world.
If this is a screenshot from a televised event (idk anything about it so idk if it is) it may have been done as processing for TV. They do it in the NHL with TV airings. They’ll cover the ads on the side of the arena with other ads more relevant to viewers not near the arena.
For example if Pittsburgh plays Edmonton at Edmonton. Edmonton has a bunch of ads for businesses in the Edmonton area but not Pittsburgh. So on TV they’ll digitally cover them with another ad that is either something nationally acceptable or local to Pittsburgh.
All the more reason to convict him as an accomplice. He knew what was coming and still did nothing to stop it.
There are rumors of the Switch getting a successor next year. My biggest wish is for it to be compatible with the current games, included digital purchases. Honestly, if I can import my digital library and saves I’m already sold on a switch successor
I meant more so that the first lightbulb didn’t. It had to go through changes and be refined to actually be usable. Maybe a lightbulb wasn’t the best example, but the concept is that the initial discovery is not usually impactful to most people but the inventions those discoveries lead to are whats important to the everyday person. The superconductor has multiple issues, and I doubt this material will find its way in anything in our lives. But if opens a new avenue of research which will lead to other materials which will find their ways into our lives.
18 months when he clearly did it, then bragged about it showing he had no regrets. Multiple quotes showing he advocates violence against people in power.
I hope he at least lost his BAR over this…
This. But not a BPO. Work for the call center for a specific company. Don’t do a company that where others outsource too. I work for an ISP and we simply aren’t bringing anyone back to the office because we can actually employ more people WFH than in office. We can hire people 2-3 hours from the nearest office cause they simply don’t need to drive in. My wife worked at a BPO as a trainer and even when WFH was popular during COVID they mandated people work in the center and wouldn’t give paid time off for getting COVID which lead to more exposure. It was a disaster.
Remember, BPO’s try to do the job for the lowest possible cost which means cutting a lot of corners and not worrying about quality. A business that keeps all of its resources in house is more likely to care about quality and the care of its employees. Case in point, when we discuss changes for our employees we weigh some agents leaving with the cost of training new ones and the cost of implementing said changes. BPO’s simply make said changes knowing they are going to train another class every month for the foreseeable future.
I was considering the train of thought that more lab grown beef means less cows burping (hopefully)
This material will probably never make a difference to the everyday person. The discovery that lead to this material will help produce better materials that will change our everyday lives.
The first lightbulb was well refined before being sold in large. Almost every major discovery affects few people. It’s the subsequent discoveries that affect our lives
The cost of childcare is absolutely insane. My wife is staying at home. She is looking for something part time to get some extra cash.
She got a position at a day care
Our child goes to the top of the list since she’s employed there
We do not get a discount on child care with her working there
Her monthly pay will be 1100
Our monthly cost to put our daughter there will be $2000
It costs more for my wife to work than it would to be stay at home.
Why do you think people should or shouldn't know about the side effects of the COVID vaccine?
Somebody else already explained it but I’ll repeat since you’re not listening. You didn’t quote a full quote. You pulled half a sentence.
They wanted true information removed when it was only partial, or was paired with incorrect information. Posting the pamphlet given when you were vaccinated would be fine because it was complete and contained no incorrect information.
But posting half the information can be damaging too as you’ve shown elsewhere in this very conversation. Your 1 in 32 statistic was followed up with information that issues were minor and had absolutely no lasting side effects or major cardiac events. Posting that statistic by itself with no extra information scares people from getting the vaccine.
So you posting 1 in 32 people have issues would get removed. You posting a link stating that 1 in 32 people have issues but none of them major or long lasting would not be removed. Do you see the difference?
I’m gonna reveal more than I’d like to, but I think geographies play a big role here. I’m in America. Rail sucks. It’d take massive investment to make them remotely viable for regular intercity transportation.
I live in Johnstown PA. I frequently travel to Pittsburgh PA because Johnstown is a shit city and offers nothing. But shit cities are were most of the focus is needed. Many people around here don’t understand how much of a difference that would make because what we have now is abhorrent. I need to walk over a mile to my nearest bus stop down a hill with a 10% grade and no sidewalks to be safe on. And that’s if it shows up. Half the time our buses are broke down and non-functional. Of course no one wants to invest more in it when they don’t see the use of it.
But I punched in a train ticket to Pittsburgh. It only leaves 1 time per day at 3:45 PM. It requires a bus connection. It takes 2 hours and 25 minutes. It costs $45 per person. It takes me an hour to drive to Pittsburgh and with my EV that is within a full charge so I can charge at home where I will never notice the cost
Trains are economical, but are not faster for intercity travel. Maybe in Europe but cities are more progressed there and have the funding to do quick travel. In the United States trains are not going to become viable for a very long time unless your on a subway and staying in the same city.
