  • Identifying as a season? That's almost as ridiculous as identifying as the position of the stars and planets at your birth! You know, that thing that apparently millions of people actually do do. Maybe Fox should go after astrology. That might be a cause worth pursuing.

    Heheheh. I said "do do".

  • Yes! Self-employed, four-day work weeks, 4-6 hours a day. Enough money to be comfortable and to put some away for later. I have to clean the place by myself on that weekday off, but that's fine. Cathartic even.

  • We've got some pretty big centipedes around here, and they're one of very few animals I slaughter ruthlessly without remorse. I have a hammer for the express purpose of braining them. Fuckers don't need an excuse to bite you, they just do. And, they love bedsheets, clothes, etc. Ironically, we also have house centipedes, and they get a pass. They're hideous, sure, but anything that eats cockroach eggs (another one I kill without remorse) is A-OK in my book.

  • It's great! It's got two in-app purchases. The mixer is invaluable! I didn't find much use for the extra time stretching options that came with the other plugin, but that's probably due to the way I compose. I make loops out of one-shot samples. If you're sampling entire loops, those are probably quite useful as well. Each plugin is only $5 or so. So $15 for everything Koala Sampler has to offer. Totally worth it!

  • As someone who does audio production as a hobby, and recently made an album using mostly Android, I can tell you that audio routing in Android is an absolute nightmare. Basically, Android (at least my Android devices) doesn't give you access to any settings at all, it just assumes that you use the default settings of whatever you happen to plug into it.

I had a problem where I'd plug in my DAC, and it would detect it and start using it, but it failed to work in the app I wanted it to work in. It took me something like two days to figure out I had to plug things in in a different order in order for them to work properly. Just infuriating, and something that would be simple to fix if they'd just give you some super simple audio routing options, but NOOO, they just have to assume that no one knows what they're doing and try to do everything for you.

  • Absolutely. I'm an ESL teacher in Korea, and getting my students to use prepositions properly is a significant portion of my job. The difference between something like "He is coming to you." and "He is coming for you." isn't obvious at all if you think about it, but there are definitely proper and improper use cases for them.

  • So many bedroom audio producers are all about having the latest and greatest gear, and then don't make shit beyond a tech demo or two. There's nothing wrong with that I suppose. It just seems a bit odd to me to collect a pile of expensive, useful tools, and then not even use them.

Or not even know how to use them. I remember one guy in particular. He had a $10000 Moog One, and used it to make a piece of music where he held an A minor chord for 20 minutes. There was almost no modulation or movement at all. Just the same chord for twenty minutes. I like outre music, but come on!

  • They're built to kill. Crazy good reflexes and eyesight, amazing jump height, claws that grab hold of tree branches, feathers, and skin very nicely. There are a bunch of strays where I live, and they are murdering machines when they don't have a bowl of food plopped in front of them twice a day at their leisure.

  • Linux is amazingly portable.

So I'm discovering! I might just have to install Linux on my home machine, but I've been running Windows for so long, I really worry I'm going to break something in that case. I also do a lot of audio production with that machine, and software compatibility might end up being a big problem.
