  • Eh, I was just prepping it for sale.

  • I see. It's easier to ask them to enforce existing laws than to make new ones.

  • Yes if they've lasted decades thats their job done

No it means they'll essentially last indefinitely, unlike BT buds.

Now people are buying usb C headphones and there is no need to continue to support decades old standards

No, what's happened is that we went from a single open standard for audio jacks to competing standards (actually 3 of them before the EU stepped in and forced Apple to quit their bullshit). And gained nothing in the process.

The ewaste from a pair of headphones is tiny so its not worth fretting over.

It's not a pair of headphones, it's millions of audio devices.

  • Headphone jack is e-waste

you can use the usb C headphones

What the absolute fuck are you talking about? What am I supposed to do with the dozen wired headphones I already have? Some of them decades old? Throw them in the garbage? Sounds real eco-friendly.

    bluetooth audio is great

It is. We had it on phones since before the original iPhone. No one wants to take that away.

Problem is BT headphones last 2 years then they go in the garbage because the batteries are dead. How eco-friendly is that!?

  • And the US market isn't?

  • Is it a dumb question to ask why so many Americans are advocating for UK/EU legislation?

  • It's hilarious that Apple is distributing a corrupted version of their own OS.

I actually have quite a bit of experience installing MacOS at this point (on Macs) and it's just a total nightmare every time. Meanwhile Linux and Windows are fairly straightforward.

  • That's weird, it returns a bunch of different instances for me:

  • The problem is not that it's hard to to tell who is or is not sealioning. The problem is people using "sealioning" to go on the offensive against those who ask them to provide evidence or citations for their statements.

  • Bazzite's future is currently uncertain due to Fedora's decision to remove certain 32-bit libraries

My understanding is that they already walked that back due to overwhelmingly negative community reception.

  • The thing is, for some reason, the laptop would be running really hot all the time ... even when idling.

Because it's not idling. Windows is never idle.

My only issue so far was that the laptop keyboard didn't work during installation but after an update it was fine.

I've heard and seen this so many times (especially in a viral video featuring PopOS "Yes, do as I say"), I really don't understand why distro devs don't immediately force/ask you to update the system after installation.

This is now making me feel like I can convert my gaming desktop over as well! I was considering Bazzite too? Anyone know if it's worth it?

I did it a few years ago (previously ChimeraOS) and it's 100% worth it. Unless you play competitive multiplayer or any kind of sims that require peripherals.

  • It's fair to be skeptical but that guy is a YouTuber and this is an electronics company and they actually manufacture the electronics themselves. There's no one involved to lie to them. If the Destin built his own manufacturing facility there would be no question.

Edit: Looking more closely at it, their CPU is manufactured in South Korea.

  • There's a vast different between "a part made in China" and "made by Chinese companies".

  • I think it'll be a while until we get a hand held experience like the steam deck but with AAA capable hardware.

That will never happen. Physically larger devices are always going to be more performant. And AAA titles will just increase the demands of games accordingly.

  • Is the Steam Deck performance struggling with new AAA games?

It did that on day 1. It's a mobile device. You have to temper your expectations.

I'm guessing/hoping not because most game developers would optimise the games for the Switch 2 and Xbox Series S which have similar performances as the Deck.

The XBOX is not going to have similar performance. The Nintendo is actually quite a bit more performant. But more importantly the games on these devices are going to be specifically designed and optimized to run on a specific piece of hardware.

I think 30 fps (consistent) is perfectly fine, and I don't mind medium details.

It obviously depends on the game but newer AAA titles are going to struggle to hit 30FPS on 800p/low.

If you want something with more performance you should get the Legion Go (non S) or Ally X and run Bazzite on it.

Should I wait for the next gen?

Valve is very quiet about these things. I don't think anyone saw the OLED model coming. There were no leaks or rumors. Just boom, one day there it was. So probably no one knows and anyone who says they do is probably lying.

  • Proton and Tuta email and calendar are free. Might as well give it a go.

A managed NextCloud instance is also a good option (but nothing is encrypted).
