  • Seconded. Looking up a past event on a subject (like a band) that has had a more recent, especially "viral" event happen to it, is like wrestling a shaved bear.

Nevermind that all of the recent shit is just articles quoting eachother, adding virtually nothing of value except noise.

  • Privation fetish. I have a bit of it tbh. The feeling that you need to be able to weather hard times, for... reasons? Like you level up your endurance stat by withstanding pain or some shit lol

  • I remember this time. It seems wild to me that I used to simply walk down to the coffee shop, just to hang out after work or on the weekend. I remember whiling away hours and hours, often closing out the shop and having to move to another coffee shop to continue a conversation. I didn't even have a smartphone lol it was amazing

And I'm a mad introvert, I don't know what it was about that time and place... would be nice if young people could have that again

  • Buying a house. Got lucky and bought before the pandemic, and even then just barely scraped together a downpayment by borrowing from inlaws.

It's crazy how having a mortgage have us access to so much cheap credit. We were able to pay off all consumer debt and even most of our student loan debt. Even with all our debt bundled in the mortgage we're still paying far less than we would to rent an apartment.

    It's nuts

  • Yeah once I stopped buying from Amazon I realised how many of my supposed needs were just wants. Like, it's ok if I can't get literal brass tacks for a project this week. It's not urgent. Nothing ever was. I didn't need any of this shit in the 90s and I don't need it now. I just got used to having it, and had to adjust to intentionally going without it (for ethical reasons).
