  • I think one idea is they know how people interact, so theoretically could ensnare 1 user in a web of interactions between multiple other fake interactions, or interactions which are tweaked to increase conversion (even something as simple as playing with the timing of a real notification). You can start to how user behavior could be orchestrated to produce (even more) desired outcomes.

  • I thought every country had this, but now I'm wondering if that's not correct.

    From the Canadian criminal code:

    Sentence for dangerous offender

    (4) If the court finds an offender to be a dangerous offender, it shall

    (a) impose a sentence of detention in a penitentiary for an indeterminate period;

    But looking it up it is quite contentious. I always assumed it was more of a mental health diagnosis than a sentence. I'd be curious how many other countries have similar provisions .

  • I get what they're saying though. It's so unimaginable that we switch to sustainable tech with the current economic and political apparatus as-is, that it makes that kind of post-climate-crisis world seem Utopic.

    Anyway solar punk is about the audacity of imagining a future where we win on even that one tiny point, if not (necessarily) dismantling capitalism, fixing inequity, fascism, etc etc.

  • There are also problems in solarpunk worlds, they're just different from our own present day issues. It's like, we solved the climate crisis, but there is still an ever expanding frontier of injustice to rally against.

    It only looks like a Utopia if you have 000 hope for the future

  • Oh this is a great idea. You could like slice it with your eye teeth and then rip it open like a mad monke out for revenge. I feel like squatting would also give you more control as things get slippery...

    Yeah this one feels right

  • Ahhh that's kind of like how it started for me. Now the things I can do on Linux far outstrip the things I can't, if I switched back to Windows.

    Have you messed around with different desktop environments (DEs) yet? That's my favourite part of Linux. I can't imagine using a laptop without tiling window manager

  • But microsoft is unavoidable for work.

    I've worked in fintech almost 10 years and don't recall a single windows machine, let alone a single piece of necessary windows service. Even the sales and marketing people use macs at least

    Google and AWS are much harder to with without.

    E: also just to note you can personallyboycott tech you're forced to use by work, and even comparing about the company's ethics at work
