  • There’s a premium service called Shreddit that will take your GDPR request files and delete them for you.

YSK though that your top results in Google are also likely to be the top traffic to Reddit. So deleting top down will remove those traffic sources to Reddit.

My top 5 results a month ago were also the posts that were driving questions via PM years later.

I didn’t pay to delete mine. I didn’t have as much as you guys to worry about. Maybe 400 or so. Every couple years I created new accounts. I lucked out because of it.

  • Known issue for older accounts with more than 1,000 posts. You should be using the Google search site:Reddit.com username to return more content to delete.

You can also do a data request on Reddit which will deliver your data on spreadsheets.

I never had my deletions reversed. The only thing that did happen is when subreddits restored, I had to delete that content too.

I had 6 accounts. I now have zero.

  • Normally that means compression of funds. So far, that idea is going swimmingly with all the protests and boycotts.

It’s definitely not the movies themselves. Who doesn’t want another remake of Willy Wonka? Remake everything, every 5 years I say. Blah!

  • It did take me 6 weeks and I’m not a moderator on Reddit. I told everyone there that I’d be leaving after Apollo shut down and last Saturday, I finally nuked the rest of my accounts on Reddit.

So a few months is quite possible to take action on. I think they are winding down operations slowly.

  • Yeah, I just deleted my last accounts over there today. They’ve been wiped for a while now and kept checking to make sure restored subreddits content were removed. Decided today that I didn’t care anymore and deleted.

Apparently I had a few thousand in Reddit gold there. Guess that doesn’t matter now either.

Now I have 5 fediverse accounts. 2 serving as backups.

I occasionally view Reddit using content blockers and annoyance removers so I don’t see all the popup stuff to sign in with Google, or to use the app, etc. I’m now useless traffic on their site that can’t be monetized.

  • Another great option is the browser app (shortcut bookmark, don’t go to the App Store) Voyager at !voyagerapp@lemmy.world.

It has a multireddit link import option that I really enjoyed. You basically go to your Reddit account, grab the multireddit link and import it on the app.

Voyager is excellent for those that loved Apollo. Has a similar feel.

  • Doing my dream job now. I hustled hard in my 20s and 30s with several internet-based businesses that were successful. In my 40s, a bout of depression occurred where I realized I was unfulfilled (money truly isn’t everything). These days, after selling the businesses, I retired for a couple years, blew through my hobbies and interests, became bored out of my mind and set out for a new path.

I’m now in a career that allows me to help people finance the first home (mortgage lender). In the career, I’m meeting a ton of new people each week, clients, referral partners and more. This is what I wanted/needed, to not be a hermit in my home working online, and to start working with others.

The job is challenging but it’s also very fun. At the same time, I wouldn’t recommend it to those that need consistent stable income because interest rates have provided fewer transactions nationwide. In the perfect environment, most struggle to make decent income for a couple years and I’m no exception.

Looking back, it turns out I choose a good path, but in reality, had I just started volunteering in the community, I would have been just as fulfilled.

  • I will not be taking your advice. You should have seen Reddit when they had to deal with a huge influx of Digg users at the beginning. It was just as bad.

I think they have done a really good job dealing with all of this. It’s growing pains. They need time to get things nailed down.

In the meantime, there’s benefits of creating your communities on the largest instance. That’s why I created mine here on Lemmy World.

  • Pro Tip: Whoever MedLab2020 is will need just one student to pay to make the whole thing profitable. However, the whole thing is illegal and I’m sure a lawyer would love to build a class action if the company has money to go after.

TL;DR: Don’t pay this. Let them go to collections then dispute the collection with all three bureaus. When you dispute, they need to document the debt, for which, there is no documentation / agreement you’ve entered into.

  • Yeah. I’ll watch an occasional Gordon Ramsay here and there. I’m more referring to the baking shows, kids cooking shows and similar. But you know what I mean, replace all variants of cooking with the many variants of home improvement, how many do we need?

  • I have to disagree because I feel “the point” is profitability. My comment shows a direct issue with profitability when liberal-swayed advertisers have to exit because of a network’s new direction.

I do understand your argument though. That’s another massive layer that will be impossible to overcome.

  • I’ve been “striking” for a long time now, against junk TV in general. There’s an occasional awesome show that delivers but 95% of it is low-effort junk TV like dating, survival, cooking and other shows like it.

I haven’t had live TV in years and it’s quite shocking to see what the average user deals with. Junk TV + ads that play 30% of the time is absolutely insane.

  • I’d like to disclose I’m a non-Florida mortgage lender with lender friends in Florida. It’s starting to really impact interested buyers. When they see the premiums, they run.

There’s some places where buyers can’t find anyone willing to insure. Well, if there’s no homeowner’s insurance, there’s no mortgage loan either.

It’s not looking good and certain areas of California (fire-prone areas) and starting down this same path.

It should be interesting to see what happens to inventory and values over the months and years ahead.

  • I don’t believe you realize the full scope of your “everything is federated” approach. There’s some really toxic instances out there that will happily reach beyond their instance into yours and abuse your users, relentlessly.

Your head will explode in dealing with it.
