I'd say most mods don't even pay attention to people critiquing them

I just got into Yakuza: Like a Dragon after getting interested on Infinite Wealth. Ichiban is so funny, he definitely has a very different attitude than Kiryu.

These Steam Next Fest Games sound interesting, I'll take a look on them. Happy! the Hippo saying it's "a previously lost game" definitely sounds like they will lean to the creepy side, but hopefully it will be better than Shipwrecked 64, which I felt like overused keypad puzzles.

No Man's Sky can be pretty fun if you get into the progression loop. Got myself a good 100+ hours with it. I really like getting to slowly learn the alien languages.

Finally got to Act 3 of Baldur's Gate 3 while playing in co-op. It's a little overwhelming now, so much stuff every which way.

I also started Yakuza Like a Dragon. Ichiban is just wild, such a different vibe of protagonist compared to Kiryu.

Maybe but it would also be immensely more time consuming. Why not use AI to accelerate the process?

It's just as much game killing than any live service today. Satellaview relied on server connection, there's no official lasting copies that anyone can own.

Media today might be less sexist but I think part of it is also that it became drastically more sex averse. Mortal Kombat is gorier than ever for anyone to see, but god forbid anything shows a nipple.

People used to bring up Kratos in these discussions but before these new games he seemed far more likely to bite someone's face off than to kiss anyone. There's a difference.

I think there is space for both sexualized and non-sexualized characters, as long as they are treated evenly. This is entertainment, they don't need to be all business serious.

Worth considering that if Alien was produced today, there would be a lot of criticism of it being "too woke". Not only progress doesn't just happen, but it's also not granted to stick unless people are still pushing for it.

I straight up do not believe that a company can provide a service for over a decade and not be charging enough to be sustainable. The CEO can come and say this to my face and I'll call them a LIAR. One or a couple years I could buy the idea of investors holding it up for the sake of establishing the business, but why would they be accepting losses for such a long time? This is funky accounting. I'm more inclined to think "it was not sustainable, we need to charge more" is just something they say when they think they can get away with squeezing more money from customers.

These people want to be rid of Google's influence, which is why they chose Firefox over Chrome to begin with. But they don't understand the position Mozilla is in..

Streaming services are paid and they are enshittifying just as fast as anything else, if not faster. No, it's not that we aren't paying enough and this is a desperate measure to make up for our neglect. This is corporate greed. Even when they have sustainable business models, that isn't enough.

Also, I worry how societal inequality might increase if the whole internet becomes subscription based, if people can't get informed or communicate without paying (more than their internet service, even)

Anime fans could figure it out before them and they can do the same after them.

I can agree. I don't think most regulation purported to be protecting children actually does anything to help, or that they are drafted in good faith at all. There's fearmongering and overreach involved, and LGBTQ+ people, as well as sex workers, take the brunt of the impact most of the time. But these new risks are there.

Even if parents were enabled to parent more, and a lot needs to change to get there, there still would be a need to educate about these new risks and aid them to protect their kids. The average parent is not nearly aware enough of what they ought to be watching out for, or how to handle it.

And as hesitant as I am about how it would be implemented, there must be some reasonable degree which we should expect online platforms to take measures too. We can demand brick and mortar businesses to take measures for child safety, why would it be impossible online? Though unfortunately the politicians we have are not nearly internet savvy and measured enough to formulate these reasonable standards...

We blame social media the way we blamed video games, and CCCGs the way we blamed violent movies and Gangsta Rap the way we blamed Rock-＆-Roll and Dungeons ＆ Dragons.

Look, there's a lot to be critical of about parenting and the demands of current day society, but when I was a kid, being bullied 24/7 even while away from the bullies, having algorithms target my particular individual insecurities and being covertly groomed by strangers even while being actively supervised by responsible adults were not possibilities. It's not just a moral panic to blame social media, it actually created more risks for children than anything else on that list, and this is one responsible parents actually would be doing good by keeping their kids away from it.

The whole "it's okay to be white" thing is a dogwhistle to begin with. It might seem benign, if weirdly unprompted without context. The issue is that among some groups this is often followed up with accusing black movements and immigrants of wanting to get rid of white people, rather than just seeking equality, which is done to fuel racism. This is why a lot of black people might be suspicious of that statement. Nevermind that not agreeing with it might simply mean unsure rather than against.

This whole thing is a roundabout rhetorical play to bait people who are more afraid of being accused of being racist, you know, because racism is bad, than understand that racism has a whole history, that black people have good reasons to be wary of people who are a little too proud of being white. But detached white people might be fooled by a superficial read of "why is it okay to be you but not okay to be me, maybe you are the racist".

If anything he proved that he is exactly the kind of white guy that black people might be worried about. He doesn't care about them unless he's on the "winning team" and gets a reward for it.
