If only we could have this conversation happen then:

Chapter and verse! I wanted to ask you a couple of questions while I had you here. I’m interested in selling my youngest daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She’s a Georgetown sophomore, speaks fluent Italian, and always cleared the table when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be? While thinking about that, can I ask another? My Chief of Staff, Leo McGarry, insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly says he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or is it okay to call the police? Here’s one that’s really important, ‘cause we’ve got a lot of sports fans in this town. Touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean: Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the Washington Redskins still play football? Can Notre Dame? Can West Point? Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my brother, John, for planting different crops side by side? Can I burn my mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made from two different threads? Think about those questions, would you? One last thing, while you may be mistaking this for your monthly meeting of the Ignorant Tight-Ass Club, in this building, when the President stands, nobody sits.

  • Well, the political calculus suggests Jeffries only needs 5 Republicans to become speaker. That would be a wild display of incompetence by Republicans, which they have provided several examples recently, but that one would be a real gem. One for the history books

  • I don't love the fact that they are on strike - in fact I find their demands to be ridiculous considering they have not provided a counter to any of the offers that got them the majority of what they asked for - but this is just dumb. And citing something Reagan did helps prove that it's a stupid idea. They should be allowed to bargain for a fair deal. I just worry what the impact of a protracted strike will be. Everyone is talking about the gains that UPS made, but they seem to omit that the Teamsters literally just put Yellow out of business.

  • Their demands are bullshit and they have yet to submit a counter offer. They are negotiating in bad faith and all they will succeed in doing is making American Automotive less competitive and more expensive.

They are asking for a 40% raise over 4 years, PLUS a 32 hour work week, and pensions, etc. Today the top hourly wage is $32 per hour, they are suggesting increasing that to $58.50 per hour with these actions (10%^4 + 25%). That would basically double the cost of manufacturing and it would reduce productivity by 20%. Unlike knowledge workers, the 4 day work week in this instance just means they produce less or they have to hire more to produce the same output.

Either way, that would put the big 3 at a huge disadvantage vs the Asian imports and most notably, Tesla.
