With a cht you have to be carefull of not retracting too much. I generally use 0.2 to 0.4 for direct drive. Higher travel accel can also help minimise strings.
Nah they'll most likely find a work around, can't imagine the check being hard to clear unless they are planning to add hardware identifiers and make all old official controllers obsolete.
Emailing the author has quite a good succes rate. Many just forced to use a publisher to get it out but love giving their paper to those who are interested.

Like already said klipper is probably the biggest upgrade possible but there are some other nice to haves:
Textured Pei sheet
Sillicone spacer instead of leveling springs
Bi metal heatbreak (increase safe max temp)
Capricorn PTFE tube for less drag in Bowden setup
Idk what shrooms you got but 12g would be quite a light dose, although that depends on bodyweight, tolerance and how much psilocybine your strain contains ofcourse.
But yeah from 30g onwards the lines between real and visuals becomes blurry.
It wasn't a phone but my first device was a €200 Chinese "tablet" running the latest and greatest android honeycomb.
