  • You can make a "I hate you so much" "I don't think about you at all" meme out of it if you want, but the fact is that American media, most notably Hollywood has an immense cultural impact in the western world. People are often confronted with the weird system that Americans use, but not the other way round, let alone come across something like the danish numbering system. It's less obsession and more unpleasant regular occurances that lead to such strong opinions about the American system.

  • Young kids do not have the mental capacity to differentiate between "I learned something new" and "I always had this opinion". They are simply incapable of the former position.

There are psychology experiments with children that show this effect, it's pretty wild.

  • This idea that copyright and IP shouldn’t exist at all is kinda absurd

I don't hold this opinion at all.

I'm just saying that there are uses for which you don't need a license. Say, visiting an art exhibition and then going home and trying to draw similar pictures. Wether AI training falls into this category or instead requires a license is currently unclear.

Btw, two spaces before the line break
    Creates the spacing you want.

  • Of course not, it's the artists decision to put it on the internet for free.

Technically that's the root of the issue. This does not grant a license to everyone who looks at it, but if a license is required to train a model is unclear and currently discussed in court.

  • Yes. All hosting providers will comply with requests from law enforcement.

Signal and proton mail were forced to hand out information as well in the past. All you can do is choose which provider you distrust the least.

  • It really depends. It would not surprise me if lemmy.world needs to buy a terabyte of storage every month just to have enough space for all image uploads. That's possible when you can just use a single hard drive and put it in a server at home, but if you use hosting and/or want redundancy that can add up quickly.

  • I mean, I suck at creating images with AI. So there actually is at least some skill to it. Even if you try out stuff at random, knowing what makes a good image is still knowledge that not everyone has (e.g. me)

  • Yes, because the internet is not restricted to English letters.

Just imagine you had to visit アップル instead of apple.com! And most importantly, would you trust yourself to see the difference that and say プッアル consistently without seeing the real reference?

Just to be clear, I hate it when the browsers hides part of the url too. Show me the https god damn! But internationalization is a good thing, as it makes the internet accessible to more people.

  • Maybe they don't know how to use debian, because it uses systemd?

    (Insert SpongeBob meme here:
    "I like mx Linux"
    "What does that mean?"
"It means he's afraid of systemd"
    "No it doesn't"
    "systemctl restart sshd journalctl"
    "Stop it, you're scaring him")
