  • Commercial aviation is one of the biggest CO2 emitters.

But point that out to all the travel obsessed millennials who want to brag about their Prius and their composet pile... and they tell you what an awful person you are. lol

A 4 hr train trip vs a flight is about a 1000x difference in CO output.

I don't travel much because it's one of the most environmentally destructive things any single average person can do. Not traveling is way more green than buying a Prius/EV. But it seems to be the #1 social status marker among the under 40 set. Esp among young women.

  • it's his fucking job to do that.

everyone lost their shit in my state when the govt pushed it. then he campaigned and he convinced the legislators and he got the votes. It took years. it was controversial, it's still controversial. lots of old shithead people regularly protest the new housing, but guess what? state money talks a lot louder to cities/towns than a bunch of angry old people.

The role of the president is to coerce and push congress to codify his agenda. If he can't do that he's not doing his job.

But you'd rather make excuses for him than hold him accountable.

  • Exactly. The DNC only cares about the top 10% (their donor base). The RNC only care about the top 1% (their donor base).

Everyone else is basically voting for people who hate them and have zero interest in making this country better for the majority. If you don't make like 200k+ a year, our political system basically thinks you should fuck off and die because you're a waste of human flesh.

  • the issue is our progress is so slow and our problems are mounting so fast, that it basically seems like we are back sliding... and we are

hence why homelessness, drug use, etc are all rising. if you aren't in the top 50% of incomes you can't afford basic shelter or medical care, and you need to be in the top 20% to afford quality shelter and medical care.

  • there is no productive way to channel it politically. everyone who is in office and running for office is 100% about maintaining the status quo because it benefits the top 10% to the detriment of everyone else in USA society.

all i can do is fix up my house. lol

  • most of my costs have been flat or going down the past six months. a lot of consumer goods that I buy are seeing massive price cuts due to overstock and plummeting demand after two years of being at or above MSRP.

Things that are still increasing are service industry stuff. Restaurants, haircuts, travel, etc all seem to be going up. I have basically given most of that stuff up because there I see no reason to spend $50 on a haircut, or a hamburger and a two beers. When I flew in 2020 a ticket was like $400, that same flight today is like $1200.

local vacation rentals also seem to be plummeting in cost thank to massive vacancies because people can travel internationally again. I've also started to see cars prices go for MSRP or mild discounts in my area after two years of them being 20% over MSRP. I'm looking to replace my 7 year old car in the next year or two, and most models of it are already seeing $1000-2000 discounts, I'm hoping by winter that will go up to $3000-4000.

  • Yes. All he has to do is tie federal aid to states and cities/towns to density/zoning requirements.

My state passed a law two years ago that citys/towns that have public transit stops must have minimum density requirements around those transit stops... or they get zero state aid for their budgets anymore. The law was pushed by the governor primarily.

Guess what happened? every city/town that has those stops (except like two super wealthy ones who are suing the state over the law, because they don't want the horrible 'poors' who only make 100k/yr moving there) is building 100s to 1000s of new units of housing.

    It is really that simple.

The sad thing is the USA is full of brilliant people who can fix our country and make it great. We know what the policy solutions are and that they work. We simply lack the political will make those changes because our politicians are lazy, stupid, and cowardly, and so our most of our voters.

  • That's the rub though. Trump makes people feel like they are doing something. That is far more motivating and powerful of a reason to vote for him than voting for Biden, who is the equivalent of sitting in traffic.

People want the country to fucking do something. Even if it is driving off a cliff.

  • Because they figure if the fan the flames they firefighters might come sooner.

Honeslty that is what drives a considerable amount of the Trump base, they want 'the end' to come sooner than later and they know voting in Trump will make it happen. A consider amount of people seriously fantasize about society collapsing because it makes them feel like they are empowered/especial/superior to the 'sheep'. Like preppers.

I myself felt this urge during 2016. I was so pissed off at the Democrats I seriously considered voting for Trump as an F you to the democrats for their shitty status quo policy making and their inability to have a charismatic leader who actually gets shit done instead of making excuses like Obama did for 8 years.

Say what you want about Republicans being evil or whatever, but they get shit done. They get their legislation passed, and their judges appointed.

  • how many of these under 18 gets are getting surgery? I've never seen any stats on that. Probably because they don't exist.

Best I can do is find some numbers about puberty blocker treatment, which is 17K kids over 5 years, so 3,000 kids a year are on these blockers, out of a population of 74 million.

  • Gay people got married and became boring suburanites and became too conservative for conservatives to vilify anymore.

Trans people are now the sex-orgy demons who only live in cities and are hellbent on destroying society.

  • Conservatives are obsessed with social conformity and rule-following. They hate change, difference, and those who don't 'fit in'. Trans people don't fit into the neat binary of male/female and don't follow strict gender roles. So by definition they are evil/bad/wrong/corrupting and a 'symbol of social decay' or whatever.

Conservatives see the existence of trans people as violation of the social order/contract or as unnatural. They see them being endorsed by the govt as fully fledged human beings as an offense to their beliefs and a threat to to their way of life. So they lean into this outrage narrative by pushing/magnifying any story they can that trans people and their supporters as 'brainwashing' children and they pull out the who 'groomer' thing because they see pedophilia as the ULTIMATE EVIL that anyone who is disagrees with them must be guilty of, because disagreeing with them is evil in their minds.

The rest is just the false narrative they construct to further solidify their views that trans people and trans supporters are evil. So they go on about children being forced to change sex and being 'multilated' by sex changes ops. None of which actually happens, but you can't let the boring facts of reality get in the way of your narrative about how trans people and trans supporters (and the big bag government!) are raping and physically mutilating the poor innocent children who need to be rescued by the brave strong heroic conservative who will restore the natural order and throw all these evil child abusers in jail!
