  • €9.99/month if paying on the Web, €13/month if you want to pay from within the Android or iOS apps. Not worth it IMO, especially since they say nothing about not collecting your data.

    E: pricing correction

  • I didn't say they would be. But to pretend American healthcare makes sense is beyond absurd. Workers are already taxed to fund Medicare/-aid (which we can't access), then we're also expected to pay private insurance premiums. The best part is that's de minimis! All that gets you is a pass to get in the door.

Then you have to pay co-pays and coinsurance, and possibly your deductible. We pay SIGNIFICANTLY more than our peers in the wider world for no reason other than greed.

  • Paying for a service that most of the rest of the world decided should already be covered.

  • Who's shocked? Anyone? No?

    Cool. Moving on then.

  • Well I'm a sysadmin; it's in my nature to answer rogue tech questions :p.

I actually daily Win11 on my personal laptop. It's... fine, realistically. I really only say you wouldn't go out of your way to install it because if you have a machine that's working well under Win10, I don't see a compelling reason to upgrade.

  • My understanding is they're most likely going to move to a system like flu shots; you'll get one a year for whichever variants are predicted to be most prevalent. (At least that's what my GP thinks is most likely)

The reason they're pushing these new vaccines in particular is because the current circulating variant is different enough to merit them.

Edit: They're developing a combo COVID/flu vaccine. See here

  • As an IT worker, there are people already in the workforce who have literally no clue what a "drive" is because they don't use traditional computers anymore. My youngest brother is a freshman in college; I offered to get him a laptop before he left as a bday present and he told me no. Apparently it's all about iPads now.

  • IIRC if you use Rufus to make your installer USB it has a preset for Win11 with no TPM. Again, not that you'd want to go out of your way to install it but doing it that way is pretty seamless.

  • Well, you also have to account for the fact that you're not supposed to completely charge (or discharge) a lithium battery pack. 80% is effectively full (if you care about cell longevity)

  • 'Member buying a game, and getting the whole game?

    I 'member.

  • I don't think they're unaware of that at all. Until those kids become criminals, most of them will have to survive somehow. Given their presumed lack of education and prospects, that means meat to throw in the "entry level" grinder.

  • I hate this trend of putting things that come in their own packaging in plastic. It's so dumb

  • There isn't one, as far as I can tell. The song is cringe as hell and asinine but I don't see any slurs.

  • I absolutely understand; I used to be a repair tech for Sprint. That said, screen repair for the Pixel 6a doesn't even require the back to be removed, so I think it was more an education issue than anything else. I don't think it was malicious at all, but shortly after I noticed the NFC issues, the back fell off and I saw they'd cracked it pretty severely and stuck it back on with double-stick tape. It was less the crime and more the cover-up that pissed me off.

  • Usually for me, the sweetness hits first, but then subsequent sips reveal more depth of flavor.

  • I recently took my Pixel 6a in for screen repair; somehow, water got under the glass and caused the whole thing to glitch out in a way that looked like I spilled black ink all over. Really bizarre. Anyway, I picked up the phone and visually inspected it - all was good, so I took it home. They said they tested it, I took their word for it.

Turns out they destroyed the NFC antenna, disabling Google Pay for me. It took me almost and month and several emails to corporate, but they ended up fixing their mistake.

Point is, this very well may be the fault of the repair people. I'd reach out to them first.

  • Yeah, I'm not really sure what additional functionality the back mini-display would add that isn't already covered by the lockscreen. Plus it's one more thing to break.
