  • This kind of reductionism is hilariously unscientific.

Many theories were only able to advance after we had the tools to experimentally review them and quite frankly often weed the bad ones out. Modern tools like computing enable the development of theories that before were unimaginable, leaving aside the necessity of modern communication to grow and share knowledge.

Or in other words: Nobody who now writes his theories on chalkboard would have done so with charcoal on a cave wall after hunting mammoths during the day.

  • Proportionality is simply not dependent on the question of who "started first" and you will always find something that is credibly or uncredibly put forth as "the beginning". This is why Israel tries to claim it all started on Oct. 7. This is why Germany argued Poland started arming and preparing for war first. This one is even technically true, but ignores the context of Germany already announcing its Lebensraum ideology back then.

That is the problem. There is a both a larger context and a direct context to the question of proportionality, where there is no plus points for being "just retaliating". Retaliation can be a legitimate goal, but only in the context of deterring from further attacks, like Iran did after the embassy attack.

  • Yeah Germany also claimed it was attacked by Poland in 1939. Guess everything after was justified then... The US claimed to have been attacked by North Vietnam. Guess Vietnam was aokay then. Putin claimed to have been attacked by Ukraine before invading. Guess we should consider everything since then as self defense...

  • I think the whole hypocrisy becomes blatantly apparent, when we start talking about transmen. An US veteran transmen made a very nice post i saw many years on reddit. He has a mighty beard and asked, if anyone thinks women feel safer if he is obliged to use their bathroom.

  • I mean in the books the matches typically score somewhere of 5-10 goals per team until Harry catches the snitch. So it is pretty much the catcher of the snitch gets to win the game.

Maybe we can give the benefit of the doubt that snitches used to be harder to catch before brooms became crazy fast and agile like the Nimbus and Firebolt series. It is mentioned that there were matches lasting for days, but in the book conveniently the matches never seem to last more than two hours or so.

  • It gets even more absurd. The southern states blocked building large power lines to transport cheap wind energy south. Now they struggle because the chea renewable energy cannot go there. So while there is plenty of renewables in the north the south still runs coal plants to provide local energy. But then the people in the north have to pay for "network fees" because the South couldnt take their energy.

Because of this it was suggested to split the German energy market in two, where the south which fought against renewables would have to pay the actual electricity costs instead of leeching of the North that properly build up renewables. This was fought teeth and nails because the South of Germany is like Texas but with an even worse superiority complex.

  • Because you are expecting a high school math exam to be solved with addition and substraction in the space between 1 and 10.

Voting in November alone is not going to solve anything. You need to apply pressure now. You need to go demonstrate, call your representatives, meet with them, demand them to end the genocide... And all of this only works if you can back up your demand by making clear that they need to work for your voice and they will not be handled it on a silver plate no matter what.

  • "Putting glue on Pizza seems to be a good idea for xy reason, but we didn't try it out in practice. More research is needed." [1]

"As other researches have said, using glue to put cheese on Pizza is a great idea in theory. This does not hold at all when put to the practical test" [2]

    AI:

"Researchers [1] and [2] both agree that putting glue on Pizza is a great idea"

  • Normal countries include all democracies around the world. You will find social democrats, greens, socialists and sometimes even communists there next to conservatives, neoliberals and fascists. The Dems are neoliberals/conservatives with some LGBT rights sprinkled in, but their social policies are deeply antisocial and often racist. Their immigration policies are fascist with running internment camps and building border walls. Their economic stance is fuck the poor, but only so much that there is still some white middle class left and their foreign policy is murder everything that is not aligned with their economic and power interests, as we see with the current genocide.

All of this is right to far right by normal standards, except the gay rights, but even deeply catholic Ireland managed to get same sex marriage before the US.

  • And whenever you look further in the comment chain you realize, that the image people have of the Dems and their actually policies and behaviour are vastly different. The Dems are a right to far right party by any normal countries standard. They just managed to gaslight the american people into accepting them as the "lesser" of two evils and believe that to be the best they can ever hope for. Meanwhile the "lesser" evil grows bigger and bigger at every election.

  • And each gun needs to be zeroed individually, needs to be maintained individually, behaves differently... Someone who has four hunting rifles will be a worse shot than someone who has one and uses it for everything. The notion of needing "specific tools" just stops making sense at that point.

  • Genocide Joe will be continued to be voted for and praised by Americans who call themselves "progressive", "liberal" or believe they have any "values" while politically approving of genocide.

The sad truth is that the court has no means to enforce its rulings. It relies on governments to be lawful and responsible and on people to demand that of their governments. However the majority of people in countries that still support the genocide are either themselves pro genocide or believe that genocide is in any way acceptable.

Future generations will look at our generation and consider us in the same category as the German Nazis, their supporters and those ignorant of their crimes.

  • The Berlin Air bridge was landing planes.

Also no one was attacking the people picking up the goods and the civilian infrastructure, roads, water, sanitation, electricity, hospitals were all intact.

Israel deliberately destroyed all of those in Gaza and continues to do so.

  • But don't you see? The reparations will be done by American companies, owned by American shareholders. And they will put infrastructure into place operated by American companies. And American companies will help to uhh develop the countries resource extraction in particular Gas in the Mediterranean Sea.

Think of all the money that will go from your tax payments straight back to some rich Americans!

  • Even if they held 50% of the German parliamentary seats in the EU parliament, there is only so much power they can wield against everyone else. But if they hold power in the state level, they can directly cause massive harm there. And worst of all they can do so in a way that ensures their continued political power.

Think of it like this: Spreading some Coronavirus outside has potentially a lot of victims, but them getting infected is unlikely. Spreading it inside has fewer victims but a great chance of infecting them, which subsequently turns them infectious too.
