  • Sad to say, but it's likely some of this bump they're getting is TYT listeners/viewers leaving after Cenk and Anna's latest spar with literally everyone near their orbit (and even losing some contributors). Many -oh so many- disaffected MSNBC viewers turned to non-traditional media after 2016, I cannot imagine how many might be leaving for more actually progressive sources after the recent election... but TYT has fumbled the bag here by both attacking other progressives AND doing shit like Charlie Kirk "debates" and interviews with Tucker Carlson.

I really hope they turn the ship around, because going after MAGA die hards isn't the answer. At any rate, Majority Report seems to be doing just fine so there's that.

  • It's because of their ideology. To Hitler's government, the extermination of the Jews as well as the mentally/physically challenged, the Roma, and all kinds of LGBTQ was seen as being as important as knocking France out of commission, bombing Britain to capitulation, or destroying the Soviet Union. The Holocaust wasn't seen as some side project, it was an actual war goal and taken as seriously as anything else in the war.

Don't look for it to make sense, little of Nazi ideology makes sense.

  • Local news staffer here, usually we're not given any of the circumstances in case like this, but even if we find out the "how" we don't report it. It's the same with suicides and murder/suicides... if we have to (celebrity, politicians, person's of note) we report that it happened once and that's it.

It is definitely to shield victims and families but it's also to prevent copycats.

  • I'm almost 40, this place reminds me of the early internet in a good way. Like, people connecting and sharing ideas... what even Reddit used to feel like. Sure, sometimes there are arguments but, due to the lack of an "outage" algorithm to juice engagement, you usually only hear about it unless it's something you directly follow. With the lack of profit motive on the side of the platform and hosting end of things, it appears that trolls and clout chasers have a genuine hard time monopolizing everyone's attention.

  • I don't get the hate this place gets. It's been really interesting watching Lemmy's growing pains over the last two-ish years and all the changes it has undergone. The whole concept of the Fediverse is fascinating to me and has been a genuine delight to explore.

  • This is going to be my Year of Linux, finally taking the plunge. Nothing special, just a used laptop running Mint to replace a Chromebook (who's hardware has finally failed). Gonna try to replace my gaming PC next year once I've got more of a handle on the different distros and have played around with them (and more money).

  • because I do not trust big tech.

Dude, same. I mean, I get that's why many are here, but it's just gotten so much worse lately.

Starting to build my first Linux machine to use as my daily driver laptop. Been meaning to get into it all for years, but Microsoft's constant shenanigans as of late and everyone on Lemmy really pushed me to take the plunge.

It'll be a "baby's first project" of a used Thinkpad running on Mint, but it's a start to getting out from under these corporate fucks. Every step away is a step to which I'm not planning to return.

  • Yeah, the plan was similar to when Time-Warner acquired Myspace only to not understand what a social media site is inherently; then fumble the bag and sell as fast as possible. They really fucked themselves left right and center on that deal... but everyone's friend Tom is still a multimillionaire.

  • Automattic declined to share a time frame as to when the migration would be complete, given its scale, but a rep for the company called the progress so far “exciting.”

Yeah, they've been talking about this for years now.
