I'm curious, how much is a typical doctor's visit in the U.S. without insurance of any kind? Just a straight out of pocket sort of expense. $50, $100, $250, $500, $1000? I assume that it scales based on more complicated procedures or longer visits, but what about the basics, like going in for what you think is a bad cold or the flue, maybe a rash or something along those lines?
I am 100%. Just because you say something doesn't mean that someone else will agree, but if you don't say it they'll turn around and claim that no one disagrees with them. The doltish Red Wave certainly wasn't for lack of debates or opposition, but it bears saying anyway.
Therein lies the rub. A complete catalogue is not necessary when a partially completed jigsaw puzzle will suffice. A lot of people have unexpected uncomfortable questions in their future about their grandmother's massive stroke, their uncle's schizophrenia, their cousin's mania-induced crime spree, or maybe even their 3rd-cousin's cancer diagnosis. Rates are set to increase across the board, no family is immune.
I say this without schadenfreude, but I fucking called it straight out of the gate.
Every single person who was enticed or cajoled into submitting these tests as a novelty or curiosity has potentially compromised the personal security of every single member of their immediate & extended family, as well as their descendants. At the very least, those parties previously mentioned may face ludicrous rates for life/health insurance or outright denial of coverage. The company to which they submitted their genetic code no longer exists, and their family's entire biological blueprint is on the auction block. Think before you make decisions, people.
The Mastadon link is a revelation, I haven't seen any duplication of content, but TBH I haven't invested a fraction of the time there as here. The Federation is a great idea, although it's going to take a little while for me to wrap my head around all of the ins and outs of the patchwork framing.
It sounds as though there's a lot more to these new setups than I had initially thought, this might take a bit of reading just to pin down the basics. Thanks for the detailed response, much appreciated, those links are going to come in handy.
Quick question for you. I signed up to Mastadon a while back, have been endeavouring to use it more regularly, and have been trying to sign on to as many local or often-subscribed orgs (on other media platforms). What I'm finding is that remarkably few of them are on Mastadon, and often those that are have been using them as a kind of alt-Twitter content splash with little engagement.
Are the actual active profiles/communities sort of walling themselves off from bots and bad actors in the way that you're describing? Invite-only groups whose activity isn't seen by non-members, or even accessible when searching for related tags/topics? Have I been casting about looking for content like someone looking for people in a neighbourhood where everyone is inside with the curtains drawn, or is there actually low engagement on Mastadon overall?
I've been using it for what seems like forever, but getting fewer and fewer relevant results over time for some reason. Switching to &udm=14 has been helpful, but I'm still uncertain about it: https://udm14.com/
Sound habits, these. Except for the front-loader, and Oxiclean, it sounds like we're on the same page. Aside from these strategies, I figure that the quality of the clothes, and having kept all synthetics out of my dresser/closet have helped to lengthen the life of my clothing as well.
Classic, I'm sending this to the Slavs in my life.
