  • I'll never understand why it's treated by some people as some ridiculous expectation that things that couldn't change so drastically over the course of 5-10 years (the entire biology of a species, for example) shouldn't do so, and that we're the odd ones for saying "but wait how is this supposed to take place in the same timeline?"

  • Replace the shine and detail with a classic rubber mask, silicon makeup, and matte brown body paint in exactly the same head and body shape, stick them at a side table in Quarks circa S6 of DS9, and I challenge you to notice anything amiss. I think that is true for how they looked s2 Discovery with the hair and normal skulls I stead of the elongated Crystal Skull shaped look we got in s1.

For me, having them look like TNG Klingons doesn't even solve the problem because ENT had implied that shouldn't happen until the TOS movie era. They could have rendered explicit the implication that not every Klingon was infected by the virus, but that still doesn't support making the Klingons look how they did in s1 DIS.

  • Most of this reasoning is irrelevant to me simply because I don't view each show as seperate. I watch DIS s1 and see this Klingons and can't help but think "so what about Kang, Kor, or Koloth? How do they look right now?"

It doesn't matter how cool or scary these new klingons look, they have four nostrils and elongated heads when before they were more like buff humans with ridges. That's irreconcilable to me, regardless of how the actual aesthetic makes me feel when I watch an episode.

Taking it at face value, the Klingons looked like TNG, then they lost ridges, then regained them with even more than we'd ever seen before, then they lose them, then they go back to TNG? That's annoying.

Depending on vote distribution, will there be further rounds? We don't wanna end up with a banner most of us don't like, right?

  • It's an underrated film

  • Star Wars (original trilogy), lord of the rings extended editions, Wrath of Khan, Blader Runner

~~These are just my hyperfixations ~~

  • Patrick voice I don't get it

  • Hope that anyone who was using it and not switching to lemmy is encouraged to do so now.

  • I looooove the start of the Marvel run with the comics set between 4 + 5, setting up the OT group as a team and detailing all the fucked up shit Vader got into.

  • Dang. I wasn't sure if you'd answer, i commented also in part to contribute to community interactions 😅

  • Huh? Everything I'd heard was theat it was P+ that was dissatisfied for w/e reason. I have to imagine if Nick had been the primary one calling the shots they'd at least have wanted to keep it for their lineup

  • If this is from an actual comic what is it?

  • They're probably speaking broadly since this won't be the last time we vote.

  • I wish this had stayed exclusively a Nickelodeon-venture instead of getting gobbled up by Paramout Plus and dropped the second the market gets tough

  • Oh totally. It just came out that you can't delete an account there without deleting your whole Instagram account.

  • Interesting that they mention their users being able to leave Threads and take their audiences with them which sounds like they want to support people being able to move to Mastodon, something many were worried they wouldn't do

  • Had to pull it up but recognised it immediately.

    "A party, oh!" - Quark

But for real, you're totally on the mark on how each of them pivot from each other, how Kira hits eats of them

"these ar- these are my friends" - Kira

Really shows how sh'es grown. I love the double take, and pause when she first is about to blurt it out, then says it more sincerly to Bareil. Thanks for pointing this out and reminding me of how awesome #DS9 is.

  • Alright I make it a point to try and engage people in good-faith, so I'm gonna actually try to explain why. I think that in practical terms, fascism is an ideology who's mythic core relies on ultra-nationalist rhetoric involving "rebirth" of the nation. (this is from Roger Griffin in his book "Fascism", which I learned from this medium essay) In this way, Trump, and many in the GOP in his footsteps, resemble this with their talk of "making america great again" and "taking their country back", rejection of multilateralism in favor of "America First", and the demonisation of outgroups (be it immigrants, queer people, muslims, etc), for example. hence the association.

The linked article does say that Trump is not fascist, but was written in 2019, before Trump did actively try to circumvent the peaceful transfer of power. It ends with the following:

Succinctly describing the current administration might not be a possibility until we have the benefit of hindsight. In the meantime, it’s the duty of all Americans to remain vigilant, and to continue to fight for democracy.

With anarcho-capitalism, you are right in the sense that the ideology as stated would be a capitalism society without a State (or government, as you put it) - but many ancaps do hold views against interracial and same-sex marrage, which often leads to them adopting other common fascist views like racial segregation, religious fundamentalism, etc.

  • just perusing the communities tab over there, I saw TheDonald, a covid-19 subreddit with a conspiratorial tone, and "anarcho-capitalism". While these things aren't inherently nazi, they have a common association with right wing bigotry at the very least, and often appeal to fascists.

  • I could see this being a vulnerability though, there are people out there who would want to game democratic systems - particularly for hot-button issues, from real-life politics to defederating Meta.
