Bots aren't the problem. You mistake the tool for its operator by cursing a bot. If I had a specific purpose for a bot, I'd use one. The difference between my using a bot and a clickfarmer using a bot is that I wouldn't treat Lemmy instances as a resource to be exploited (and ultimately ruined). Such an attitude would inform the how and the what behind my bot use.
The problem as always comes back to bad incentives, bad design and bad behaviour.
I can see the measures we currently take for ads (large user-maintained subscribable blocklists) being part of the solution. That, and some form of privacy-respecting POW scheme.
Continuity of service is a massive advantage to reroutability. If there's an accident or track damage affecting the rail route, that's the end of the service for the time being. A bus will simply take an alternate route - and depending on the disruption, alternations may have no impact on the ability to service all route stops.
On power efficiency, I'm willing to bet the draw required for tram car conveyance is heavier than what's needed for buses carrying an equivalent number of passengers. It would be interesting to see figures on that front.
The galling thing from an onlooker's perspective is that the Australian government can have the case evidence disappeared for trial purposes but will probably go on to make legislation and policy reforms on the basis of that same evidence being brought to light.
Putting aside Big 4 concerns and fiscal irresponsibility, what annoys me is the continued prejudice involved in the mode of transport chosen.
Bus beats the pants off light rail in just about every respect you can think of. It's quickly scalable up and down, it can be rerouted on a whim, it doesn't require additional road or electrical infrastructure to operate, spare parts are plentiful and the parts economy is competitive, maintenance overheads are lower, the fleet is amenable to reuse in non-PT contexts, etc.
But none of this counts for much when you realize you'll sometimes sit near poor people on the bus! The bus does not boost real estate values.
What sort of bizarre org politics enables a camera boil that fugly to be signed off and shipped? That is disgusting. Phone designers have to be living in a bubble - they've lost touch with all principles of good design. Either that or the bill-of-materials folk rank over them, and this is the designers' attempt to accommodate them.
I don't understand the mindset in this thread. Functionality is neutral. Withdrawal of it is not a good thing - people should be able to comprehend that even if their vision is partially blocked by their hate boner for X/Musk.
As an experiment, take any remux from your collection and encode it by dividing the raw video bitrate by 2.5
