  • Fuck...ing...HELL

Often when a headline has only part of a sentence, it was taken out of context so I watched the video.

narrators voice "it was not taken out of context"

I personally have strong dislike of all fundamentalist religious teachings but the things this guy says are despicable. We don't have to respect someone's opinion but we have to respect their right to hold it, and saying vile shit like this only furthers divisions.

  • Might be a case of 'build it and they will come'.

I've been writing dance music for about 20 years, I think the relentless pigeonholing of genres can get ridiculous, but if it's within that cast array I might be able to help... Before someone else wildly disagrees :)

  • I browse lemmy a lot on mobile. When I first looked into lemmy mobile clients, they were read only.

This post inspired me to get Sync 4 Lemmy, now I'll be commenting much more (careful what you wish for haha as I'm sure I will have opinions some don't agree with, but hopefully can always debate rationally)

  • Sorry to hear about your experiences. It does provide some small feeling of solidarity to know we're not alone!

Well done for accepting yourself. I do have the privelege in some sense that if I wanted, I could pretend to be straight. Maybe that's an aspect that riles some gay people up. I can confirm I don't repulse women :) until that is, they figure out or find out that I'm not straight. Then it's almost always the instant evaporation of attraction.

As far as I understand it, for some women, their idea of attraction to a man is still (despite the clamouring for equal rights) tied to how macho the man is. Sex with men, or trans people, destroys that machoness. Then you've got the insecure ones who assume because you also find another gender attractive, they can never be enough for you, or that you will cheat. I've never, ever cheated on a partner. Finally you have the ones who assume that not being straight, you're highly promiscuous and therefore riddled with STIs. I can't speak for other guys but before I realised I was pan I used to joke I'm not bi, I'm bi myself. Very much not promiscuous, and very much take the necessary precautions whenever I sleep with someone (which is rare).

Notice how just speaking about my experience caused someone to downvote my comment. We can't even exist without offending some people.

  • Been single a loooong, long time. 99% of women I talk to / been on dates with find bi / pan men disgusting. It got to the point after one date, when she'd told me she's bi, then literally recoiled in disgust when I said I'm pan, I just gave up.

Moved to a new area, been on one date, she is bi and doesn't understand why so many women think that way. She's awesome, we had an amazing time so I hope it grows into something special! Good luck with your relationship :)

  • I liked his writing but a third of the way through the 4th book I realized I didn’t give a shit about the characters anymore.

xD fair point. I guess we all have different tolerances for different stuff. I was dating women in their 40s when I was in my 20s so maybe the age gap stuff flew over my head when I read them. I just finished a really enjoyable book by Stephen Baxter called 'World Engines', the main character also appears in other books by him and I really, really struggled with it purely based on the character.

He's called Malenfant, and would you believe it, he's bad-tempered! 'Malenfant grunted:', 'Malenfant snorted', Malenfant scowled, oh very subtle Stephen. He is capable of imagining such diverse creatures, thought patterns and genuine 'hard sci' concepts, then went with 'grumpy old man' for the protag. There's enough grumpy old men running the place already, I'd prefer my fiction to be a respite from that!

Looking forward to his next book about a protaganist paralysed by indecision called Soppy McSimpleton.

  • Yep I was in touch with solicitor today, and they confirmed it's not worth the hassle pursuing. Though, they did seem to be misinformed re the need for a contract; a contract is required to 'negligent misrepresentation' but not for 'negligent misstatement'.

Excellent idea about passing on the details of the survey to the estate agent, that way they at least have an established obligation for future potential buyers. And I'll definitely keep an eye on it with a mind to informing the eventual poor sod who takes it on.

  • I've never read the books, huge fan of the game series. I love reading, but what's put me off is Sapkowski's reputation for being an arsehole. I dunno, I've always been a bit resistant to consuming media if I don't like the creator.

Like, I can enjoy Michael Jackson songs, but if I discovered him today with all the baggage attached I might never have formed an attachment to his music. Think I'll see if I can find any Witcher books in the library and then if I don't enjoy, I've not wasted any money.

  • It's quite scary to think that not only are kids not being taught logic, but many are being taught anti-logic; magical thinking etc. It blows my mind that right wingers screech about 'grooming' and indoctrination while they're teaching their kids divisive skybeardguy nonsense. Literally grooming them to be religious.

Imo this is why they pushback and create false equivalence, because they know they're losing their sad little foothold. Notice how whoever is downvoting comments in this thread has nothing to say.
