  • We gave a teacher a nervous breakdown once. Age 13 we thought it was hilarious but as an adult I feel very guilty about our collective behaviour.

Not sure what they're called where you are; 'Rio Snappers' here. Little twists of paper with some sort of mild explosive in, you throw 'em at the floor and they go 'SNAP'. Everytime she'd turn to write on the board someone would chuck one, 'SNAP'. Reckon she must've been struggling already and we tipped her over the edge. Her husband was our history teacher and we paid dearly for our transgression in every lesson thereafter.

  • Yeah I was going to say, most libraries have free internet that you just have to register to use (my current library even has a few workstations for unregistered), then remembered how many libraries have closed due to funding cuts imposed on councils by the tories.

  • Make sure you also get the mod that speeds up the sound FX. Speeding up the doors was a good QOL for me, though I think it also affected the death animations... the final killing shot on an enemy made their dying animation happen ridiculously fast after installing that mod. Or maybe it was happening all along and I just never noticed until I became OP

  • There's a podcast I love called 'BudPod'. It's two well-educated British comedians, ostensibly about current events, but often devolving into poo and wee puns. I'm catching up with current events and atm they're discussing Boris Johnson, and how even with something as codified as the US constitution, all it's taken to make it a nonsense was one man who said ".... no." Similarly when Johnson was asked to resign or not to breach certain conventions (we don't have a constiution like the US), he just said "no".

We need more than a wink and a handshake when it comes to rules governing... well, governing.

  • It's absolutely insane how many things need turning off to gain some modicum of privacy with win10, I refuse to upgrade but imagine it's worse in win11.

Totally understand the love for Linux. If my audio interface & DAW were compatible I would investigated switching way back. There are other interfaces which appear to be compatible, and other DAWs, but I am highly proficient in the one I've used for ~15 years and don't want to invest time learning a new one; and my audio interface lets me use very, very high end emulations of hardware (UAD).

Seriously considering Linux for potential future live PA work though. Stability is appealing for live stuff!

  • Can I ask what TV programme you're trying to find? Between 1337, eztv and TPB it's vanishingly rare I can't find what I'm looking for. And for those rare occasions, I can find it to stream (or download using a firefox extension called VideoDownloadHelper)

  • Ages ago, I read about a recipe by the 'grandmother of Italian cooking' for an incredibly simple pasta sauce. I can attest it makes a very tasty sauce and it's so easy, even a cooking dunce like me can't fuck it up (yet). And if you want to add extra spices or herbs as an experiment, that only increases the flavour.

Her main premise was... why waste time chopping an onion into little bits? As our old pal Kevin would say, everyone is going to get to know each other in the pot! You take an onion, peel it, chop it in half, chuck it in a pan with one or two cheap tins of tomato. Add a healthy chunk of (salted) butter. Stir occasionally, she recommends 30 mins but ain't nobody got time fo' that. I usually do 15 or 20. Add salt to taste, remove the onion (as an aside, the onion will now be sweet and edible on its own), et voila.
