  • I mean, Excel's formulas are just scripting, so you are programming if you do any formulas.

Excel is pretty powerful if you have some data to manipulate or some math to math, but also it's generally the worst tool for the job, but it's at least a tool you can almost always assume will be available

  • I keep subscribing, listening regularly then stopping and unsubscribing from various NPR podcasts and honestly I can only conclude that they bake in ads based on the listener and will do less ads for new listeners because I swear it's always a very small amount of ads initially every time

Having started primarily listening to audio books and sneaking in some podcasts between books it's very night and day comparing the experience of listening to each, with shitloads of ads vs none (or just "this is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. To learn more or to volunteer visit LibriVox.org") so it's much more hands off with audio books at least

  • Antenna Pod is great! Lately I've been using Podcast Republic and I can't remember why I tried it specifically, but importantly it has very in-depth retention and download rules so I can exclude previews of the paid feed that are only 20 minutes long, sort podcasts by date or by title (handy if you pull in LibriVox books by RSS feed), create a podcast from a folder of files, and various other handy features.

  • someone rolling all 4 or 5 apps into a preconfigured single docker or app that can be a one click install

The reason each program does its own thing is for legal liability. One downloads what media you search for, it's up to the person operating the software to choose media for which they can legal download. The next manages the metadata and organization of media but is up to the user to supply media for which they hold appropriate licenses to. Etc. Etc.

By putting all of the pieces together into one package you lose that deniability of software which has legal usecases but happens to be able to be combined to do something illegal.

You know how normies pirate? They find free/cheap streaming sites and hop from one to the next as they get shut down

  • I've learned from trans friends that we share some experiences of gender, because I generally don't fit the traditional masculine model despite being a cis male. I remember being interested in "girly" things as a kid and being frustrated that I wasn't "supposed" to play with the toys that I wanted to I could see where in another life, with the right people saying the right things at the right times that could lead me to believe that I'm trans when I don't actually seem to be

  • Real talk, H.G. Wells was a fantastic author and his biggest hits are both immediately recognizable enough to be a performative conversation starter while also having the added bonus/hazard of potentially accidentally getting into it.

War of the Worlds, The Time Machine and The Invisible Man are all ones I've recently listened via Librivox (I linked the specific readers I listened to) during my commutes, but of course, my goal is to actually enjoy the books

  • Seeing a modern vehicle after a crash and how the person is doing its incredible how much crash safety has improved. I've seen vehicles that barely look like vehicles and the person walked away shaken but largely uninjured

  • I play a ton of simulation and strategy games (and some that I would hazard to classify as virtual railfanning/model railroading, like Railroads Online and Transport Fever 2) so I crank up the prettiness, download as much custom content as will load and enjoy the scenery at 20-40 FPS

  • You can do it! Don't let the younglings make you feel out of place and don't be afraid to bring your real world experience to the table to help them out!

Also, do some electives and extracurriculars if you aren't already! Yes its more load but totally worth it!

  • I went back to college (attended a technical college) at 25 (I think it was? I can't remember lol) and had multiple classmates twice my age. Its not too late unless you decide its too late!

Plus the best part about going back to college after being in the workforce already is employers feel less like they're taking a risk with you than if you're 20/22, so you absolutely can hit the ground running. I graduated about 3 years ago and I've already landed myself a job as a system administrator, and my older classmates are doing higher level project management type roles, and that all comes primarily because we have a decade or more of job experience under our belts, even if its not necessarily in the industry (one of my classmates was a sheriff before he went back for example)
