  • I think game changing tech is always better but we as consumers are complicit in allowing the erosion of the benefit because were complacent.

Look at podcasts as an example. It beat the shit out of any other media at the time. Just hobbiest and funny people making content. Content that didn't have any producers making sure people stayed on script. No ads, ever to interrupt or make creators panic about topics. Then rogan started pushing pocket pussies and everybody said its cool because its only 2 mins and skippable. Years later its now multiple unskippable ads on a paid service where we pay to avoid ads.

The only time we could have stopped the current problem is when it wasn't a problem. But we don't have that foresight

So game changing tech is great, if we keep it on track. Don't let it erode.

  • Using AI to create voices and audiobooks sounds awesome though. I don't like that people may lose their jobs. But using AI for this stuff seems like a natural progression. Having an audio book that shifts voices and tone easy but can also include sound effects and background noises would improve the audio. It would make these products better and likely cheaper. It would also give other creators a ton of ability to create their own stuff. Giving indie game developers tools to create games would be great.

Id love to have a tool to read books to me that can parse any book. Even something like a textbook. I learn much better by listening and no reader has been able to do that yet,but AI looks promising.

  • The problem is its not worth the fight. Its an issue that's for sure pushed by fossil fuel industry because how many people you will piss off. It's devastating but if you want action on this you need to actually ignore it for now and instead get golfers to see it themselves in other ways. Its a good game and its most peoples thing they do to fuck off from lifes bullshit. Coming at people and saying you'll take that away is something fossil fuel industry would love for people to do

  • I meant more like abstract business phrasing that is stuff like 'aligns with lean principals' or 'improve efficiencies through cost driven metrics' stuff that sounds like a high school essay written by a student adding as much fluff to every sentence and ending up with whole sentences that didn't need to be said.

  • I can give one reason. Its not logical but it's a reason. Its to signal don't fuck with me because look what happened to this last guy. If someone in your day to day life messes with you and you allow it, are you not inviting more of that behavior. If you punish them for their behavior they will be less likely to do it again. I think its some deep seeded feeling of justice that someone who fucks around receives punishment. Wanting to rehab someone who did something cruel and beyond reason like murder isn't something I have an instinct for. I would argue its the opposite of human nature to want it. If someone murders my daughter. and then ends up using my tax dollars to sit in a facility where they're given respect and care and amenities to enjoy and be comfortable I wouldn't feel like justice was served as the state has taking away my ability to dish out the most basic urge we have to make sure the people in society who act criminally are handled. The state should consider punishment as a form of sentencing because it is a form of justice.
