Makes sense to me. One of the deciding factors for me was the ease of bootloader unlocking. After getting fucked by Asus on my Zenfone 8 Flip when they started with their heel turn, the FP5 seemed like one of the better options for a company that would "always" have the unlock option.

Currently I am running it rooted with the original fully updated ROM, but I plan on installing Lineage OS on it in the future. Since I hadn't ever installed a custom ROM and because I didn't have a backup phone anymore, I bought a cheap OnePlus phone to practice installing Lineage on. Although the OnePlus was relatively easy to unlock, the FP5 was even easier.

Currently typing this on a Fairphone 5 that I imported from Europe. I would personally say no in terms of it being an answer to the above poster. At least as of now. I'm not saying I dislike the phone. I'm fairly happy with it, with the only real complaint being battery life.

Although it is easy to repair, as far as I am aware none of the phones really share any parts or have an upgrade path which is what I would really like to see. Similar to the Framework laptops (which I also own and just upgraded). I think the SoC in this phone will last me for quite some time, but if the Fairphone 6 ends up having a much more energy efficient screen, I would love if I could install it on my current phone, but that is highly unlikely as far as I can tell.

My Fairphone 5 was easy to unlock.

Even during Covid I felt a similar way. My "compromise" has been in person early voting. It's pretty much always dead when I go in and is very quick. I don't think I have actually voted on election day in over a decade.

If I understand things, a good chunk of the increase is to offset the inflation that has happened since the last negotiation.

Home Depot has trucks that can be rented for a similar price, lol.

I would add to this that almost all the companies I have worked for (from local businesses to multi national corps) constantly "save" money by hiding it in labor costs. There is some line item or other thing that is clearly definable on a budget and so they will outsource it in some capacity and then pat themselves on the back for the cost savings. However, what ends up happening is the resulting product that comes in is dog shit and it forces the people on the ground to fix it or otherwise make it work.

Most regular people just want to do their job and not rock the boat, so rather than make this new issue a pain point for management, they just deal with it. Over time those types of things start to add up and burn people out, but the higher ups are never directly effected and so I think they get a weird sense of anything they say ultimately "just working out".

Id memory serves the owner of Menard's is a dick head and the company has gotten in trouble for worker and environmental violations. No idea about political leanings, but there really aren't too many places one can go that isn't directly supporting the erosion of our standard of living and basic rights.

I live in the US (granted I watch a lot of UK content) and even my first reaction at reading the headline was along the lines of "then fucking pay/fund them instead of setting them up to fail!"

I'm based in the US and that's where I used my Huawei phone until recently. OnePlus is among the manufacturers that still do IR blasters, and it looks like the OnePlus 12 has one and is easily purchased from their US store page.

As far as I can tell Samsung hasn't released a phone with an IR blaster since 2015 either. Essentially, IR and Samsung hasn't been a thing for a long time. If we are going by total volume then I would agree that the most common manufacturer in the US that has/had IR is Samsung. If we are going by new phones available today, then Samsung isn't even in the conversation.

IR blasters are very common on Chinese brand phones even today. It's easily the feature I miss most from my Huawei.

My brother in Christ and all his disciples, can we just go back to the quick settings from Android 11 that is accessible when holding and using the phone with one hand and has more than 4 options? Or, and I know this sounds CRAZY, give users a choice? If you are going to harp on Apple about locking their ecosystem down, then when you introduce new methods of navigation keep some way of going back to the old way.

I can even do this in the shit box that is Windows 11. I finally had to use and interact with it for the first time this week, and with the installation of two programs I was able to get the start menu, taskbar, and right click menu back to the way I want. Even installing Lineage OS on my phone can't get me back to the old quick settings tiles as far as I am aware of.

His argument isn't even a valid/honest one. Take Illinois and Chicago specifically. They have stricter gun laws, but when a gun store in Indiana is just a 20-30 minute drive away those restrictions don't do much because of how close by a place with lax laws is.

I think you are right, and I hate that it is a fact.

What I want right now is a small electric kei truck or utility van for use as an in city daily driver. Just make the cargo area large enough to put 4'x8' sheets of plywood in it and close without any fuss and I am sold, but I don't think that's going to happen here anytime soon.

Ford discontinued selling their small Transit Connect van here recently so that isn't even an option anymore.
