  • It really is a beautiful movie. Rock solid cast, charming and funny, but can be absolutely devastating at moments. And the "flowers" might be one of my favorite moments in a movie, full stop. It is so simple, but fits so neatly into their characters.

  • To answer your question, most people aren't against age limits. But the elderly are the single strongest voting population and the people already in power won't do anything against their own interest without significant voter follow through.

  • Wow, I'm not familiar with the series outside of Vaati's videos, but this seems even darker than past entries. I don't want everything to be like that, but it's a thematic tone I trust FROM with. Very stoked.

  • Yup. As Carlin said, no conspiracy is necessary when interests converge. The people who made the system fundamentally designed it to encourage behavior that enriches themselves and others like them. There's no deep state, outside of the super rich old white dudes who pal around together and just want to get richer. And anyone who isn't in that demographic is a threat.

  • It's important to note that she didn't do it alone. There have been a lot of grassroots activists working diligently to combat the gerrymandering and to rouse usual nonvoters in conservative-leaning areas. Not taking anything away from Big Gretch, she's been doing really well, but it's a team effort that everyone can contribute to.

  • I agree, but there is definitely a limit to the degree of frivolous side quests. I'm playing TotK here and there, and some of the quests/objectives are basically punishment. I liked the koroks in BotW, but a lot of the new ones can fuck right off.

  • This is precisely why I love Owlbear Rodeo. Just what I need, no unnecessary fluff or mechanics, super easy importing, website with no installs. I'm interested in the new version, but I'm not DMing an online game right now so no subscription from me yet.

  • I've seen others say this, but the explosion of streaming services and consolidation of companies really feels like Old Hollywood owning every aspect of film again. Really not enjoying the replay of the early 20th century.

  • Yeah, and I certainly understand the trend with the growing competition of media. I think that notion will stick around, but it will also ebb and flow when the bottom line demands fresh content. That feels justified as Pixar is looking for something that works instead of rereleasing Zootopia and Inside Out again.

  • It's on the list. Just haven't been in the mood to start a very serious drama, but I'm looking forward when the mood strikes. I did really enjoy Mando S1, primarily because it was what I've been waiting for: a genre smash in a unique setting (space western). The more the series has moved from that, the less I like those episodes. Andor seems to fit that mold.

  • I'm not mad about it since I think it is the nature of being a fan, but I don't think Star Wars is really for me anymore. I never saw CWs or Rebels, and I don't really have any inclination to, but it seems that someone needs to consume all SW media to enjoy the new stuff. Eh, but what do I know? I liked TLJ. I hope Ahsoka is good for those that enjoy it.

  • First these organizations will be stretched to breaking, then we will see a crime spike. It is the opposite of the crime drop decades after Roe. It seems obvious that unwanted children or families that just can't provide for children being forced to have them results in more problems. But the GQP thinks it's more important to punish and control women for daring to have sex than it is to make sure kids have a loving, stable environment. Pro-birth and nothing else, more meat for the machine.

  • Not a single gift, but my MIL has this obsession with keeping things "even" for the holidays so everyone receives the same number of gifts. This inevitable means that everyone receives a set quantity of filler gifts. So I get grouped in with my BILs, who are nice but we are different people. She'll split sock packs between us, bulky shirts that don't fit me, car and garage accessories that I have no use for, etc. I got a single roll of duct tape once. Not even good duct tape, a thin dollar-store roll. I've said so many times I don't need a pile of things to unwrap, that I'd be far happier with just one, thoughtful gift I could really use instead of having to haul a boxful of cheap useless things home. But nope, gotta get those numbers up.

  • The problem is it is far from just the NYT. It's the same from most mainstream liberals. Biden said nothing would fundamentally change. That's what they want. Stagnant status quo forever. They want their political theatre that solves no problems and stays in deadlock so they can say they are fighting for whatever goal they state. But that's what has allowed fascism to grow strong, people being frustrated with do-nothing representatives. God forbid people take effective action that has results.
