  • Exactly. There's nothing wrong with being weird. I'm weird. It's the fact that it shatters their egos is what makes it so effective. They have to think of themselves as normal or else they'll have a melt down.

  • If you type : and then blob a whole bunch of cute emoji's come up. You can do : blob cat and : blob fox without spaces. The list is so long it can take awhile to load them all. There are some in the emoji section if you search blob but no all of them. edit: typo

  • I mean, I addressed the second and third sections. The statements in the first section are tautological truisms. So I'm not sure what you mean.

I largely agree with your points, just not that there is no hope for these people on a long enough timescale. This was both preventable and is fixable. We just have to give ourselves the time to fix it.

I'm choosing to believe in people. It's the most useful outlook I can have.

  • I had a dream once where I tried to help a friend do that. His left hand got ripped off in the machine we were building to kill god.

edit: then the machine exploded in our faces

    Cannot recommend.

  • In the short term, between now and the election, sure. Studies have shown people reject new information that contradicts an established belief. In the long term, it's possible to get people out of cults and fascist movements. But that takes a level of time and effort we no longer have.

Best we can hope for is superior numbers to the degree that the inevitable court battle after the election cannot refute.

Yes, this is the solution. We outnumber the fascists. We need to show it at the polls and vote for the Harris-Walz ticket.

  • Exactly, socialism is an inclusive institution like majority rule democracy. We are headed to an Orwellian dystopia by prioritizing the freedoms of markets and corporations over people. Rather than state propaganda we got propaganda from billionaires. The effect was the same as 1984.

The difference being, despite how flawed it is, we still live in a democracy for now. So we need to vote in record numbers for Kamala and Walz. The Republican strategy is to contest the election in every state, county, and polling place so we need to out vote the Republicans everywhere we can.

  • That's the thing about fascism. It can happen anywhere because people aren't inherently predisposed to any ideology. With enough brainwashing and propaganda over enough time anyone who doesn't already know better can become a fascist.

This didn't happen overnight, fascism takes time to take root. In the US, neoliberalism has been pushing socialism out and letting fascism in for over forty years since Regan took office.

  • Trump is already planning on replacing everyone in the federal administrative state with loyalists. If the military doesn't follow his orders he will keep replacing people in the military until they do.

The real question is will the military do anything to stop Trump? Let's not put ourselves in the position of needing to rally around General Brown in a civil war. Let's vote for Kamala and call Trump weird.

  • To paraphrase Trump, he said if elected, he will send the military and national guard after his political and ideological opponents.

That's a threat. It's phrased as a threat. The fact he's says it calmly doesn't matter. This is what fascists do. They identify an out group. They stir up public fear and resentment against the out group. They make promises to their supports, in the form of threats of violence against the out group, to get rid of the out group. Then historically speaking they make good on their threats to the best of their ability once they take power.

When fascists run out of the current out group they just find another way to divide the population and pick a new out group. As long as fascists want to cling to power they need an enemy. What Trump isn't telling us is the next out group he hasn't picked yet because he doesn't plan that far ahead. The Haitian immigrant conspiracy was a spur of the moment thing that other people had previously come up with and told him about on the plane ride to the debate. If he ever needs a new group to fearmonger about he'll just ask other fascists for ideas. edit: typos

  • This is the story that we need to be focusing on until election day. None of the other stunts matter. If anything this post should be pinned. We should keep our eye on the ball even if the media won't.

Trump threatened to send the military and the national guard after people on the left and Democratic politicians. This is blatant and open fascism. In any other election Trump being openly fascist would be the October surprise. Everyone needs to see this.

  • We need to abandon fascism, neoliberalism, capitalism, and minority rule democracy. What we need is social democracy and we need it in every country, because it is currently the best system we have. We can have a global economy, but the rules we play by can't allow some groups to exploit others or fail to redistribute wealth when there are economic winners.

I also blame Business Schools for not showing independent thought and propagating Jack Welch creative accounting shit

Scanning his wiki page he seems awful.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Welch

Welch's practices and legacy were criticized as ultimately self-destructive and a bad influence on corporate America by author David Gelles in his 2022 book The Man Who Broke Capitalism: How Jack Welch Gutted the Heartland and Crushed the Soul of Corporate America―and How to Undo His Legacy.

  • Apparently it is what is known as a rigged rental which is the equivalent of a quarter muncher. The game was so difficult that it would be to hard for new players to beat during the rental period to force them to buy it. It doesn't seem like there was an actual arcade version, just a case of mixed metaphors. edit: typo

  • What's surprising about it is that two attributes outweighs all of the upsides of being a full-time employee and the downsides of an enshittified business model that makes you pay for your own gas. It speaks to how important and valuable work-life balance and coworker interactions are. edit: typo

Companies should seek to provide at least the first and higher wages. I'm not sure what companies can do about generational differences, maybe different shifts, but that seems like it wouldn't be feasible in every case. Maybe more training. He made it sound like an attitude problem though. =/

  • People simply don’t care. The amount of times people talk about fleeing the country vs even changing their local government is completely out of whack. People don’t try,

People have an instinctual flight or fight response to danger. And it's rational for an individual to consider flight in the face of the most powerful military in the world. Discussions about safety are important. Most discussions I've seen qualify the need to flee based on Trump taking power. Most of the people who participate in them are explicit in their intentions to vote for Kamala and the Democratic Party in general.

I for one would like to see more discussion about changing governments. However the issue is less a lack of caring or lack of trying.

expect to move somewhere else and not try and not have their problems follow them.

It's more as this gets to, a lack of perspective. People are thinking in terms of their own self-interest. Specifically themselves and the people they care about in their immediate social spheres. This is human behavior in a nut shell. People are not considering the broader context, in part because we've never had fascism at a global scale before. Even in WWII there were limits to the reach of fascist nation states, some continents saw little to no direct conflict at home.

What we are seeing now is unprecedented in history. If the US becomes a christo-fascist dictatorship we are going to see the world completely divided into sphere's of influence. Dictatorships will become completely unchecked as the US switches from maintaining the world order to expanding it's sphere of influence in the western hemisphere. A war with Mexico is not out of the question in this scenario. Neither is Canada falling to it's own far right.

The rise of the far-right isn't unique to the US, it's been happening in India with Modi, Milei in Argentina, and in the Philippines with Bongbong Marcos. The far right is taking power and entrenching themselves all over the world. Modi and friends in India are buying news outlets to keep them toeing the party line and spewing propaganda. But unless a person is a political news junkie they can easily miss all of this broader context. People aren't being informed about the global rise of fascism, so they aren't discussing strategies that reflect that.
