  • I suffer from heartburn and acid reflux, so this could be very helpful, thank you :)

  • Gatorade tea would certainly be interesting. I don't know if it would be good interesting or bad interesting though...

Either way, I just found the thread:

  • I read on here somewhere recently that a pinch of salt in a cup of over brewed tea takes away the bitter taste, and I'm sure the reason given was something to do with the acidity of the tea being lowered.

I might be completely wrong, but it might be worth trying with a small cup 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • If you haven't been back yet, it might be worth emailing them instead, and getting a response in writing

  • As well as your chosen languages, select Undetermined too. Some Lemmy clients don't automatically select your language when you post or reply, so if the user doesn't notice, their reply is classed as undetermined rather than their language.

Choosing Undetermined as a language option lets you see those posts and replies 👍

  • Pizza Hut - Domino's - local takeaway - Papa John's

The Pizza Hut does fantastic pizza, but doesn't deliver, and is too far away to get takeaway from.

Domino's is ok. They do decent pizza, but have been getting more and more stingy with the cheese, and are hideously expensive.

The local takeaways all use the same supplier, and the pizzas are average. They can be amazing from time to time, but that's the exception.

Papa John's opened here a few years ago, so we tried it. The pizza was so bad that none of us finished it

  • 86% of Mozilla's revenue came from the agreement keeping Google as Firefox's default search engine

That explains a lot. I've only recently switched back to Firefox after Chrome took the throne years ago. I still use Google's services for now, so wanted their home page as my new tab page.

The only way I could find to do that was by using an extension, but every so often I get a warning from FF that my new tab page has been changed, and it gets reset. I looked up a way to stop the warnings, and found a Mozilla blog post with comments from staff claiming that it's a security feature.

Apparently the only reason that you might not want to start with the FF start page is because you've been hacked 🙄

  • I'm not sure about things like changing timetables. I know that a lot of places have published timetables that can be added to OSM, but I don't know if they can be automatically updated or if they would have to be done manually.

  • In case you haven't already seen it, MapComplete has a cycling layer that lets you add details to the map. The data is added to OpenStreetMap, so it benefits everyone too 🙂

  • Street Complete has a map with an overlay that looks kind of like the Pokemon Go map, but it has lots of different icons where it needs more data. Tapping an icon will give you a question based on the icon type, and will be something like 'what is the road surface here', or what is the number of this building '.

It's pretty easy to use, and if you don't know the answer, or are not confident about answering it, you don't have to.

Like you say, with OpenStreetMap itself, you don't get questions and you add things directly to the map manually. It can sound complicated, but you can do anything from adding a single node (a dot) and marking it as the tree in the town square, to drawing a box and labeling it as a building, all the way up to adding bus routes and power lines, like one person on the Discord is doing around Wales at the moment.

As long as the thing actually exists on the ground, you can add it to OSM, and you can do as much or as little as you like. Any detail is better than no detail 👍

  • StreetComplete is another good app for adding details to the map, and it lets you select the type of things you want to add 👍

  • I like the idea, but a lot of people resent being made to create accounts on random services. We know that Lemmy is good because we're here, but it might put them off the idea.

Depending on the age of your students, you might have to be careful about the fact that NSFW content is freely available here, and check the terms of your instance to see if they're allowed to make accounts in the first place e.g. on most social media and forums you have to be 13 or over.

  • What's that Skyrim meme again? 'Ah, you're finally awake'?

  • You can pick up the older pads really cheaply too. I got mine for about £20 a few years ago. It's basic, but if you're just starting out, it does what you need :)

  • What, like 'put your fingers here, here, and here to play a chord'. That's how you learn to play guitar too

  • So how did you think you were going to be able to play the guitar? You have to learn an instrument to be able to do anything with it.

  • I had the same problem. Luckily for me I found out before they went past the 30 day?* window, so I was able to renew and then transfer them away.

*I can't remember the exact length of the window, but I think that's right.

  • Still, don't they require ID and phone number and shit these days ?

I've got no idea. I haven't had to do either, but I've had my account for years, and pretty much only use it to keep track of birthdays.

I've used marketplace a few times for buying and haven't had to add any extra info, it just connects me with the seller through Messenger. I'm in the UK if that makes any difference.
