this isnt exactly true. (my instinct is to say it's completely false but i could be wrong!) in many states, it's medical marijuana that is >20% THC and the cheap public stuff is unregulated below that amount. so you have people getting a bogus medical card, buying up 30% strands, and smoking an ounce a week and going into psychosis. source: stoner drug counselor

this is very true and something i practice myself, using as little as possible

and yet... that's not how most people use the drug. meth is similar! did you know that if you were to microdose meth you could theoretically use it as an ADHD medication? and yet where are all the microdosers? why does my city have a rampant meth problem?

thankfully cannabis is not nearly as destructive as meth but the parent comment is right: cannabis is becoming more and more problematic in people's lives due to the high THC content and the cultural rubber banding effect. we've gotta reckon with the fact that this miracle drug is still a drug that messes with our NT systems quite a bit

The thing is, people can commit to different things. A classic saying in recovery is "If you put as much effort into your recovery as you did your addiction you would be on top of the world" or whatever. Would you walk 4 hours to make it to a job interview like you would to pick up heroin? etc

yeah tattoo culture is really going through a massive shift. in 2010 no one in korea had tattoos, or if they did they kept them secret. the only ones with tattoos were involved in organized crime. if you took your shirt off at the bathhouse, people would get scared, that degree of discomfort.

now you go to korea in 2025 and you see young people with tats everywhere!

There's also an ego thing. Lichess starts you off at 1500 elo whereas I think chesscum starts at 1000. So if you're rated 1000 on Lichess you're a lot worse. There's a mentality that the better players are on Chesscum.

this of course isnt true, there's plenty of competition and actually around the 2000-2200 elo level Lichess actually overtakes chesscum. there's also fewer cheaters!

I definitely highly, highly recommend Lichess.
