  • I'm legitimately curious- why do you think the above claim is bullshit? To me, the fact that both shellfish and insect carapaces are made of chitin makes it seem reasonable that they would trigger similar allergic reactions, but I wonder if that's not the case?

Edit: I looked it up, it's a protein called tropomyosin and it is carried by some crickets, along with other bugs like cockroaches.

    I found an article here

  • Positive reinforcement of the behaviour you want to see is way way better than punishing behaviour you don't like. If you consistently redirect bad behaviours, and reward good ones, then you don't need to be around for the dog to choose the better behaviour.

  • I don't think you can advocate for universal mental health care without universal health care. Mental health care is health care.

There's a reason where I am that a mental health clinician is part of the cancer team. Having just the therapy aspect covered would do nothing for people unable to treat their physical illnesses.

Promoting better accessibility of mental health care is reasonable- even places with universal coverage mental health lags behind. The tricky thing is that some people will refuse to access care even if its available. Its more visible in cases like this but happens all the time with other chronic illnesses like COPD and diabetes where it gets out of control and the person succumbs quietly.

I don't know where I'm going with this. I wish he had sought help and I wish that help was available. I'm glad no one else lost their lives in this case.

I don't feel like this is exactly right but it's hitting some of the same notes. Divided by Infinity by Robert Charles Wilson

!The one I remember ends with the main character essentially becoming the singularity, but this ends a little differently. Equally as sad as I recall though.!<

  • Thanks for the insight! My uninformed view was that from a moving parts perspective it was a lot fewer than a transmission and traditional drivetrain, so it seemed like there would be fewer points of failure and less complicated maintenance. It also seemed easy to produce, even with tight tolerances it's pretty mechanically simple.

It was hard for me to see if it was just marketing hype though. It's interesting that wind turbines use planetary gear sets! I never thought about it before beyond "wind spin blade= electricity."

  • All I've seen of it is the marketing video that Hyundai released so I was curious if anyone had an unbiased opinion. I did show it to someone I know who works for a competitor and they felt that it seemed really promising, but I don't work in the field so I'm not sure.
