  • All of them are non-venomous, but there are a ridiculous amount of ball python breeders out there and animals in need of homes. I actually worry that some of the wild type ball pythons might be euthanized for no demand. Similarly, there are more retic breeders than people who can house them (aside from super dwarf localities) responsibly.

I think boas don't have quite the same over breeding problem as balls, but it's not hard to find one needing a home. Snakes live 20+ years. It's a big commitment.

  • Even if they are just trying to gather that information, immigration is the absolute wrong place to do it. So much is riding on this for the individuals coming in, and the fear that it might disqualify them when they were acting the way any good healthcare worker would is real.

  • But asking if they provided medical care to injured members of Hamas is beyond the pale. This isn't an application for a car loan, this is trying to escape an active war zone and cobble together some semblance. I doubt political affiliation came up during medical assessments, but even if it is the Geneva convention would forbid turning anyone away.

  • Setting up a legal pathway for suicide helps people maintain agency and also allows for those with curable conditions to take the time to seek the help they really need thanks to the ample medical oversight.

I don't think that it's awesome. Having read the article, I think that she has full capacity to make the decision and am happy that she is doing so in a medically supported way. Botched suicide attempts can cause devastating disabilities. And I always hate when a family member finds the body of someone who died by suicide.

  • She's run out of treatment options and is still symptomatic to the point that her quality of life is severely diminished.

It wasn't an overnight decision and has been reviewed by multiple medical teams, over 3 and a half years. All stated in the article.

  • The argument is the higher burden on the health care system it causes has impact on others, not to mention secondhand smoke, and then cigarette butts being the most common form of litter, means that other people are affected.
