  • You have a very optimistic view of the American legal system and it does not include nuance such as this. It depends from state to start but generally a sex offender is not legally prohibited from holding just about any position beyond teacher/day care. Some states make it difficult for them to obtain professional licenses. I do not believe any of them actually prohibits "children's entertainer".

Typically that would be considered the purview of the employer.

  • The guy was accused of raping a child between the ages of 1-11. Do you think that person should ever have anything to do with children? Being 16 does not make this excusable.

  • I disagree. There are still tons of games available that are amazing and aren't developed by companies that enable shitty behavior and decision making, but you definitely have to shift through the chaff to find them.

  • Imagine you wanted children and then someone would come along and castrate you because there's a problem with overpopulation. You take away an individaul's choice of reproduction for the greater good. And it makes sense, but the lack of consent or even understandment does not sit well with me.

You're anthropomorphizing animals too much. Cats don't "want" children. Beyond a basic biological need they don't give a shit about procreation. It's not even a difficult question, ethically speaking. In almost every environment they exist in cats are considered invasive, reproduce like crazy, and tend to be incredibly destructive to local species. To be clear, I don't think there is anything wrong with owning a cat, but it's important to do so responsibly.

  • Knowingly hired a sex offender". Well? Should everyone on the sex offender registry be jobless forever, or what is the point?

I generally agree with this point, except, Mr.Beast channel is specifically catered to and often involves minors. In that particular environment there should be an absolute zero tolerance for any kind of sex offender. That's a no brainer. If you somehow find out after already hiring the individual the correct response is to publicly and candidly let that person go.

  • Philanthropy porn

What an excellent description of this kind of behavior.

  • That would be wonderful but I definitely wouldn't count on it.

  • Hot shit it's not often you see a frontpage cross reference on Lemmy!

  • Another fun fact about the game is it has a surprisingly robust audio system built in. I had a clan member who could pinpoint exactly where an enemy was on certain maps (pipeline I think?) just by the sound their footsteps were making and the direction/proximity to his location.

Also, shout-out to all the boys out there that did the precision m203 artillery bombing on bridge! I remember getting good enough to hit each of the individual cover posts. I spent so much time playing this game.

  • Ferngully is a regular player in our house.

  • There is a major difference between desire and necessity.

  • Loved Milo and Otis as a kid. Hell we have a dog named Otis.

  • Heh heh this guy was feeling light as a feather and stiff as a board!

  • We just rewatched this with our daughter the other day and it is rrrrrough.

  • That's bullshit. Just because it's not convenient for our political strategy doesn't mean she has to risk her safety or the safety of her fans by further involving herself.

If she speaks out against the maniacal right there is a greater than zero chance that many innocent people other than her will be hurt. It would not be the first time.

  • Fuck that, he can spend all the time he has left on an all expenses paid stay in one of our prisons.

  • ,I feel like this one is context dependent. Sometimes it's just acceptance of the situation.

"Wish it weren't so hot outside, but this is Texas in August. It is what it is."

  • I'm not saying anyone in this situation shouldn't face consequences, but it's wild how much some people prioritize punishing a parent that just made the most devastating mistake of their life.
