I've always been a bit conflicted about unions. Those seem to be a good thing up to a point but I sometimes hear stories of them also taking it a bit too far and basically blackmailing employees to do what ever they want because otherwise they're losing their entire work force. In the case of amazon though it seems like a union is exactly what they need. It's a subject I need to research more. And I'm saying this as a member and beneficiary of extremely strong union.

We don't have a strong gun culture. We have a lot of guns pers capita but those are mostly shotguns and hunting rifles. The vast majority of people don't own guns but the ones that do have many.

What we do have however is a strong competent military and a border that due to its terrain would be an absolute pain to try invade us thru. NATO membershit helps too.

There are usually restrictions about what kind of house you're allowed to build on which neighbourhood. It's not so much about the money or unability to design cool buidings. You can't get a permit for a house that's completely different from all the others.

Most likely will at some point. Currently it seems that the best job security is on those doing physical labor. If your hands don't get dirty your job is probably on the line.

It's a steaming pile of garbage. When I click "maps" I'm expecting a map to open up. With google maps I'm faced with all kinds of menus and shit I never asked for that I need to start clicking away to uncover the map underneath.

Yep. And by everyone I literally mean everyone. Every iPhone has whatsapp installed, my workplace uses it, every single one of my friends use it, my parents use it and my both grandmothers use it. Hell my pet gerbils probably have whatsapp too.

Never watched a single reel/story or what ever they're called but I'm still on instagram. Why? Because it's my only social media account my friends know of. Also I met my SO there so I guess it has some sentimental value aswell. Don't use the app though.

Ability to speak seems like an obvious sign on some kind of intelligence and complexity but I don't remember anyone ever arguing that inability to speak means lack of intelligence. We know a plenty of intelligent species that lack the ability to speak a language as complex as humans can but we don't consider them unintelligent because of that.

Sucks to lose your job to a potenttially more competent AI then that lacks any intelligence.

I see them as every way inferior to normal phones. I don't get why they're popular.

I was just talking with chatGPT about this. I know I say controversial things and all but I still try to always be respectful and I don't say things I don't believe just to get a reaction. I genuinely try to bring some nuance in the discussions I read but sometimes it truly feels like pissing in the wind. Here you get downvoted for saying you use twitter in a thread about what social media platforms you use and sometimes just stating facts that anyone can google still gets you downvoted.

I wonder what it is about the term "retarded" especially that provokes so strong negative feelings in certain people but not "idiot", "moron" or "imbecille" though all four terms have been used as mental health diagnosis in the past

He could just not let them use starlink at all. Ask any Ukrainian and they'll tell you how invaluable it has been to them yet here we are still doing mental gymnastics about how he's a Russian asset. I get that you don't like the guy but this is just ridiculous.

Yeah I agree that with a platform of this size it comes with huge responsibility aswell knowing your words have a real world consequences. Maybe that's the explanation to the widespreat hate. People much worse than him generally don't shitpost on social media so we're not thinking about them
