  • I would say philosophy.

  • Gonna be honest, this is the best thing I've read all day, and I'm writing a book

  • I think a good midpoint is the Bigme Hibreak Pro. The eink display might be enough to stop you from getting too sucked into your phone.

  • A phone I'm excited for is the Bigme Hibreak Pro. Its got an e-paper screen that refreshes at a tolerable speed, and you can install apps from the Google Play store which run just fine. Will it ever play video smoothly? Fuck no. Is it cool? Also no. Is it horrifically expensive? Surprisingly, also no.

Bigme has also made some exciting (but way too expensive) progress in the desktop computer world by making a 60hz eink monitor. It frankly is terrible at most things people do on their home computers, but it can keep up just fine with the boring work stuff like Vim and the MS Office Suite. Am I willing to pay almost $2k for a monitor for work? Absolutely not, but I'm glad it exists.

  • That's actually the best thing i have read so far today

  • One time as a 19-year-old, I planned out an entire Traveler campaign in the span of two weeks. 46 planets, each with distinct cultures, local flora and fauna, and a unique questline for each one. There was an overarching plotline about a Doctor Sinestar abducting people and stealing tech. I basically spent two weeks in my room furiously typing from when I woke up until I fell asleep at my keyboard, ignoring my bodily functions until my body forced me to take care of it. It was a race against burnout, and I won, but at what cost?

  • Last time this happened to me, I got really into poetry.

  • I think the problem here is that being a scientist means you are, by definition, "smart". Which can make it hard to accept when you are being an idiot. And what do people do when they can't accept a truth about themselves?

  • I actually already have the Alphasmart Neo. I just have baggage about taking it outside to write since I was given it when I was in 5th grade, so my bad self talk likes to remind me that "this is a device for children to do their English assignments on" whenever I take it out as an adult

  • Yep! That's the entire appeal of the system! And I want to make absolutely sure that anyone picking up the game knows that they are getting into, because I am well aware that the fact this is my favorite game system says a lot about me as a person

  • I just wanted to make sure you understood that the complexity is loaded all at the front, during session 0. Its actually a good deal more complex, but you get to pick and choose what kinds of complexity you want and deal with it at character creation.

Also, their supplemental books really helped me grow as a writer and gamemaster. Most of them tackle a genre and explore it thoroughly.

  • I'm going to second the other commenter in my enthusiasm for GURPS, but for the opposite reason.

Gurps has the problem of being a universal role-playing system, like Fate, which means session zero includes a long sit-down with your DM about what precisely we will be doing in this game and what mechanics we will be using to create the desired experience. You then fill out the appropriate forms in triplicate to create your character. Usually, your DM makes a template for you to use like a shopping list, but the rulebook assumes you are digging through the first 300-page volume selecting your abilities and skills over the course of a day.

Then, once you start playing, you never have to look at the rulebook again. All the rules you will be using were written (by you) on your character sheet. You roll the dice, see if you managed to roll under your target numbers, and then either succeed or fail. The DM barely has to adjudicate anything.

  • Ah, yes, the speed chair

  • Hey, don't diss Princess and the Pauper like that, i watched that one as an adult and loved it

  • I am willing to bet she already has some plan in place, she just might need help executing it when the time comes.

  • Don't worry, I get it. That's partly why I commented here. Ive been kinda hoping someone would chime in and tell me about a browser that can block ads and sync with your phone without being, you know, chromium.

  • Brave. It blocks all the ads and syncs with my phone. That's all I want. I like using Librewolf more (with uBlock Origin) but it doesnt sync with my phone so I can't really use it as a daily driver

  • Gonma be honest, I love the Pictionary theme

  • Release me, mortal! I am Stormageddon the conqueror of worlds! Kneel before me or be slain!

  • SHHHH, Y'ALL ARE TOO LOUD! CAN'T YOU SEE SHE'S SLEEPING?
