  • Who is UnversalMonk? Never seen him. Probably because div0 (my instance admin) blocked him for some petty bullshit like calling him an egocentric power tripping keyboard warrior

  • Phonics. The current curriculum is based around sight-reading, meaning students are told not to sound out words they don't recognize. The effect of these have cascaded down the rest of these students' lives, and now we are seeing a wave of Uni students who are nearly illiterate. I'm getting a degree in elementary education and I'm proud to say that I'm going to be doing my part to fix the problem.

  • It's an important skill, and I don't think the NTs value it enough.

  • I remember one time I was hosting a party trying to read the rules for Werewolf, but had to delegate the task to someone else because I couldn't focus on the words. I ended up just slipping out making a joke about having to take my lithium, so I could take my next dose early without being distracted and losing my Strattera pill

  • This is somewhat related, but i have literally never met a single ADHD adult who wasn't the chillest person ever. I suspect that a lifetime of learning to go easy on ourselves and set reasonable expectations for ourselves transfers pretty well to being patient and kind with others.

  • You can keep Japan's defiance for whaling conventions

  • Take it from me, that dog is perfectly capable of standing up and waddling about 15 - 30 yards before taking a breather. If it was a dachshund I'd have more questions.

  • I ask myself that every time I visit my grandpa.

To be clear, both my grandpa and his dog are spherical but somehow have avoided both heart disease and strokes. Can't say the same for Gamgam.

  • Idk how i misspelled philosophy that bad

  • During my last semester I learned about the 4 main educational philosophies, and now I'm doing a personality test in the back of my head whenever I meet someone who likes children

  • Honestly that's adorable

  • I just realized that I've already blocked both of the mods at some point in the past. The community looks really dead without their posts.

  • Public school teachers. Not willing to extend this to admin, though.

Everything single teacher ive even heard of is doing the job because either

    1. They love children unconditionally
    2. They want to raise the next generation to become productive adults who are prepared for the real world
    3. They believe that everyone deserves enlightenment
    4. They agree with Thomas Jefferson that school is preparation for participation in democratic society

Teachers that value money over one of these things typically do not last long.

Just to be clear, most teachers are just doing a 9-5 job they are good at. But if you ask them why they are teaching instead of making actual money in some other field, you eventually drill down to one or more of these beliefs.

  • Our system at least was functional before primaries were invented in the 40s.

  • That there is your problem. Circadian rhythm is a real thing.

  • My community colleges:

Passwords must be 12 characters long, contain at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, a number, and a special character; it must also be changed every 30 days. There was also some sort of alogarithm that checked if your new password is too similar to any previous password you had used, and rejected it if it was too close.

Hilariously, if you had a link to the page the password was supposed to limit access to, you could bypass the password page entirely. As such, I never changed my password.
