  • I don't think Connect is open-source. To my knowledge, it's similar to Sync and Boost, a single developer working on the app as a passion project.

  • I'm taking a more free-spirited approach to my instance, communities can be formed as the users please here. The ideal would be lots of medium-sized instances each with a few large communities, but ultimately people will join where they want and we don't have much control over it.

  • If you're a big player on your instance it may be courteous to make a goodbye post, but I think you're probably just free to go. While most public instances like to have more members to some extent (including me, as a Lemmy instance admin), the largest plus of federation is it's cool for people to shift around, the content will still spread.

  • Unironically yes, Putin is like Hitler in some notable ways and is in fact very bad.

  • Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Often companies will pretend they can drag out a case for years when they can't, and simply hope no one calls their bluff.

  • Kinda. Lemmy doesn't have anywhere near 50 million users, but the thousands we do have is enough to keep the community churning away.

  • The government needs to hold firm; if they want more money they need to fulfill their commitments first. America as a nation will only improve if we stop tolerating corporations gaming the system.

  • A capital gains tax works well for the rich that have the majority of their wealth tied up in stocks.

  • This is honestly a great experience, the app has integrated with my instance perfectly. Impressive work!

  • Honestly, I think anything involving any sort of cat is welcome here, especially that very good cat in a perfectly sized box.

  • The Connect UI is alright in my opinion, but Sync is definitely more polished. That makes sense though, Sync has been around significantly longer and thus has seen a lot more improvement.

  • It's so convenient. It's the type of feature you love to have but don't automatically think to request.

  • Removing ads is $20, the lifetime cloud subscription is $99. $99 is definitely a high price tag, but I suppose if you plan to use this app for the next decade it may well be worth it.

  • I like swiping gestures, it has a really nice UI, and I don't mind unintrusive ads in otherwise free software.

  • Funnily enough, Sync seems to load communities from URLs on my local instance just fine. I suppose features like that are the best part of using a well-built third-party app.

  • In my experience, CLIs are easier to design but harder to design well. Because of that, when I find a good CLI tool it runs as smooth as silk, but I would easily take a decent GUI over a shitty or rushed CLI.

  • Completely unsurprising. When you believe you are punishing your enemies with divine retribution any amount of cruelty is acceptable, and thus we get posts like this. Thanks GOP for giving us these people.

  • Ah, it looks so comfy!

  • It's possible that people were idling their accounts while waiting for Sync to come out, and are using the platform more now that it has.
