  • If you are wanting to move into a more programming oriented career, then I would say that while a college degree is useful it is by no means required. One of the things that you could do is complete a certification course and then apply for an entry level position, you'll take a pay cut but unfortunately that's common when changing careers. What type of work are you currently hope to move into?

  • I'd say to give it a bit longer before pushing average Redditors to come here. Lemmy is still unstable, and things like the sudden fall of VLemmy or the hacking of Lemmy.world can be enough to get normal users to give up on a new platform.

  • I mean, even if we went extinct tomorrow our mark on this planet is permanent because of all the damn plastic, much of which will probably fossilize. Even still, the extreme weather and extinction events on the way I don't think are enough to end us, there will probably be some stragglers that struggle by in the ashes of the old world if nothing else.

  • Yeah, I appreciated the reposts to an extent because memes cycled so quickly I would often miss the original, but it definitely got stale over time.

  • Threads is new but not novel. It's essentially just Meta Twitter and is using Facebook and Instagram to give it automatic momentum.

  • Indeed, though less now than in the past.

  • Indeed, no one has heard anything yet. It's very strange, I hope the VLemmy admin is ok.

  • This is why a paper trail is so important. When shit hits the fan they will always try to blame you, so you need written or audio proof that they issued the order.

  • I think it's honestly far more useful for Lemmy, where multiple communities may not only have similar themes but have the same name.

  • Why the fuck do I know what this means? Life is cursed.

  • The kind where a blood draw kills a child. I'm guessing that this hospital isn't ranked highly for medical ethics.

  • There are some states in the United States where electricity is insanely cheap.

  • A true God among men. If we all had his dedication we would have colonized the galaxy by now.

  • That's really cool. This is a good use-case example of Mastadon, the government can run its own official instance for announcements and information without impacting other instances

  • Might be, some of the apps haven't implemented handling for an invalidated authentication cookie. Try logging out and then back in.

  • Indeed. Not many people hopped ship, but those who did were disproportionately power users, mods, and other content generators. Because of that, I've heard that Reddit content generation has somewhat slowed.

  • As I always say, sounds like a tomorrow me type of problem.

  • It could also be that they never implemented custom emoticons, which are what caused the security issue. Even still, I would recommend confirming with your server admin.

  • The sudden death of VLemmy and temporary closing of lemmy.world pushed a bunch of people here I think.
