  • Revenge for the impeachments and the various investigations and prosecutions. Also revenge against anyone in his administration who has spoken out against him. So people like Liz Cheney. Adam Kinzinger, Jack Smith, Merritt Garland, Biden and his son, Bill Barr, John Kelly, Mark Milley, any prominent figure who has publicly insulted him. The smart money is that a long list already exists.

  • Fortunately for us there is a very clear geographic split between where most Trump supporters live vs where most of the rest of us live. Demographers can and have focused it down to the postal code level, which is just to say that it's far more granular than simply red vs blue states.

  • Leaving aside all of the maquiladoras that have sprung up across the border since the passage of NAFTA, sure, your old man has a point.

What really happened is that we did move our low-cost manufacturing to Latin America, but our capitalist rent-seeking overlords figured out that playing ball with the CCP was even more lucrative and so they willingly allowed low-cost Asian manufacturing to take over.

That said, it's still true that the US does more trade with Mexico than we do with China.

  • I don't think that's what is being said at all. I think what's being said is that if the future belongs to the next generation, it's in all of our interests that intelligent and responsible people do not simply give up and allow the idiots to dominate the future. In other words, we all have a stake in the coming generations and simply opting out because we find it somehow inconvenient is not a moral decision.

This is not to say that we all need to have kids, but rather, is to say that we shouldn't necessarily fault those who do choose to have them. Again, if the children are our future, it would be nice if at least some of them were raised by responsible, intelligent and well-educated parents.

  • You shouldn't feel bad about it. Do what you think is right for yourself. On the other hand, you should recognize that you have no idea what being a parent is actually like, which in a sense means that you don't actually know what you are talking about. It's life-changing and unlike any imagining.

  • It's a life-changing experience that is unlike any imagining. I am a much better person for having had a kid. That said, I never found it even remotely terrifying or unpleasant, which is just to say that it's definitely not for everyone.

  • They only test for alcohol after a reportable incident. Nobody cares if you drink on your own time. Source; I have been through OSHA 30 training. They do screen for MJ though, which is bullshit since it's legal in so many states now. IBEW, UA and a few other powerful trade unions are currently leaning on the feds to end the screening requirements in states where it's legal, so we may see real progress relatively sooner than people think, unless Trump wins.

  • I don't think you can blame people for being sick of the negativity. It's everywhere these days. You can't get away from it. You'd be forgiven for thinking that this smallish move on Biden's part would be greeted with indifference rather than outright boos, but no, nothing is ever good enough, this is the world we live in.
